A persons word should mean something. NO is definitely a word were someone has chosen a side. What can you say to someone who says NO? If you are selling something, NO can mean to try another approach to get the NO to weaken. This comes dangerously close to arguing which is where the nonprofessionals take it. The word NO has to be respected yet in consumer interaction it is also an implied invitation too
SALES PEOPLE SEE IT AS AN OPPORTUNITY
NO when given can mean so many things and that is why people do not take that sound or word seriously. It can mean: not now, I have to go, I didn't bring my checkbook, I am not feeling well, I don want to be bothered, and I am not ready.... just to name a few. That is why some people take NO to mean GO and keep running with it.
NO DICE
Try ignoring the word NO that on a date and the date could end on a bad note. In that arena, the NO has more weight yet people do push it sometimes. People begging for money don't take to NO very well. NO when given clearly indicates that the other person has given you some attention. People use that little crack in the door to pursue it even more. Kids are famous for it. Can I go out? NO! Can I have money? NO!...Why not and the never ending NO speak is now afoot
NON-SENSE or NO SENSE
If NO reaches the point where it is not respected or obeyed, then silence comes into to play as the next best option. However that could prompt someone to repeat themselves or even try harder to get your attention. Perhaps a smile without an answer can substitute real well here for a NO. If people start to not take the word NO literally and if people who give it don't mean it...then this goes on
TEENS KNOW NO
When saying NO, it may help to add a thank you which is a polite way to dismiss the intrusion and the intruder. It comes across like the final word. Others like to bark out the word NO! or even add a facial expression. Some repeat it NO NO NO. Teens today like to drag out the word..NOoooo as their way of handling it...like I'm all NO.
IT'S A NO-NO
NO pets, smoking, talking, or eating is pretty clear language yet things happen. NO calls, refunds, loitering or parking gets tested all the time. Somehow the word NO just doesn't mean what it used to mean if you KNOW what I mean..NO?
