You Can Be Seen On The Phone

By

You can be seen on the phone, I remember something I learned early in my sale career, one very simple thing that I believe really helped my sales. Something so simple that we forget it.

How to make a better impression on the phone. Add a mirror behind your phone! The Westdale company kept a mirror behind the phone in each on call room to remind you to smile each time you reached for the phone. I added one to my phone at my desk in the bull pen and my desk at home.

Smiles can be heard. Smiles can be seen over all, but the worst of phone connection. We all have bad days and bad moments they are the most likely time to get a call, smiling before picking up the phone drastically improves your image, your tone of voice and your closings!

William, that's some great advice. How to I put a mirror behind my iPhone? Wait, maybe I should change the ringtone to something that'll make me smile!

Hi William, I agree! I made a promise to myself a few years ago to always answer the phone with a smile because, like you, I believe it can be seen/felt! Too many people answer their phone sounding grumpy or annoyed even.. They could benefit from your advice.

William I agree. Also I find that even when you are at home working and making calls it is best to be dressed professionally. The way that you dress has a difference on how you portray yourself over the phone as well.

Hi William.  I agree, something as simple as a smile can change the tone in your voice.

Eric,

Doesn't the Iphone have a camera on both sides?

Andrea,

Part of the problem with cell phones is people answer them every where. There are many times when you should let it go to voice mail.

Bill I don't know if a smile can be seen or heard on the other side of the phone, but it can certainly be felt.  Your mirror suggestion is an excellent one.

William, this is a great idea!

I also like the comments re:  "Dress professionally even if at home" and "smartphones now have cameras on both sides"!

Bill- I managed a placement agency in Houston and received similar advice.  So I gave my  consultants mirrors.  An added funny.... one of my consultants stared at herself in the mirror the whole time she was talking on the phone.  Once, as a joke, we took the mirror away while she was on the phone (not to a client).  She became so tongue tied we had to quickly return the mirror.

Kathy,

You know what they say about great minds!

Back in the beginning one of the "ladies" I started with had to turn her mirror down dunning calls, other wise she'd get so involved admiring herself that she couldn't hold a conversation.
