Lantern Tours at Fort Vancouver - Light up the night.

Lantern TourIlluminate history and the dark winter months of January and February with a Lantern Tour at Fort Vancouver. The lantern-lit journey is designed to give you and your family a glimpse into the past. Even after sundown, you'll discover, Hudson's Bay Company employees worked much more than eight hour days.

For example, after dark in the Fort's bake house, the fires were stoked in the ovens, as bakers mixed up batter for bread and sea biscuits. The baked items were for Hudson's Bay Company staff, as well as visiting traders.

Next stop on the Lantern Tour at Fort Vancouver is inside the Fur Store. Once the shops were closed, Hudson's Bay Company clerks stayed busy inspecting, weighing, bundling, (for shipment to England), and recording the furs brought in by the traders.

Lantern Tours portray the "night life" at the Fort.

Lantern ToursEach adult will carry a lighted lantern as the group follows a Park Ranger to each building, set up with a scene portraying the "night life" at Fort Vancouver. Costumed interpreters help add authenticity and entertainment value to the 90 minute Lantern Tour.

Sip on complimentary hot cider at the end of the Lantern Tour and feel free to ask questions about life after dark at Fort Vancouver.  Tours are offered on Saturdays, twice monthly, January 5th through February 18th.

Hi Debb - What a unique way to visit a historic site! I remember the Hudson Bay Company featuring prominently in many of the novels I read as a kid about exploring the west. I'd love to do this tour.

Hi, Deb -- what a great idea!  I remember a number of years ago, I attended a candlelit concert at a church in Europe.  We felt transported back in time and I get the sense that the same thing would happen on this lantern tour.

Hope that your New Year is off to a wonderful start!  Eric

Debb, well, I'm a big one for history and sorta "re-enacting" this with the costumed folks would be fun and nostaglic, and who knows--romantic??  I'm a sucker for candlelight anyway.
