South Pasadena CA - Celebrating The City’s 125th Birthday with a Photo Contest

Celebrating 125th Birthday of South Pasadena

I think this is a fun idea to celebrate the 125th Birthday in the city of South Pasadena - a photo contest. Open to all residents of the city, the basic rules are:

Entry categories are iconic spots and/or a historical place within the city

A limit of two entries per person

Photos must be sized 8 x 10 inches

Age categories are 12 and under, 13 - 18 years old and 19 years and older

Indicate whether the photo is to be entered in the iconic spots or historical photo category

Deadline for submission to the contest is February 11, 2013

Photos and entry information should be submitted to the

Recreation Division or emailed in jpeg format to SP125@ci.south-pasadena.ca.us as well as the photo copied on a CD and mailed to:

Community Services Department, Attn: Photo Contest

815 Mission Street

South Pasadena, CA 91030

Remember to include your name, age, address, email address and approximate date and location of the picture. Judging will be conducted by various local South Pasadena organizations. Winner will be announced via email by February 28, 2013. Winner s will be recognized the day of the celebration on Saturday, March 2, 2013. More questions; contact 626.403.7380.

I think this is a wonderful community event to showcase the city’s talent and showcase some of the iconic and historic spots within the city of South Pasadena.

South Pasadena is a separate city from Pasadena CA. Thanks for the nice comments about the photos I have shot but I'm not eligible for the contest and there are many talented residents in the city. Jeffrey DiMura brings up a great idea to showcase the winners and I have certainly put it on my calendar and hopefully will be able to do that with you.

Don - thanks -- this idea is certainly applicable to any community whether it be Pasadena CA or Zimmerman MN.

Laura - if I had a steadier aim, my photos would look much better -- photography is definitely a talent(and one I admire) -- with its small town appearance, South Pasadena is often used in films, television, advertising and more to stand in for Anywhere, USA -- it's quite common to see the lots of "location shots" on city streets.

Inna - it is a fun contest, isn't it? I'm sure the childrens entries will be some of the best -- it will be very cool to see the entries and winners.

Morgan - I marvel at the creativity around all of us.

Hi Michael Jacobs - It must be time for their 130th anniversary. My, time sure flies!

I like your photos a lot. The Meridian Iron Works building reminds me of one of those village pieces my mother had under our Christmas Tree when I was just a kid. It looks charming and quaint! I think it would be especially fun to visit this town during the holiday seasons. Add some Carolers, a Salvation Army bucket, window decorations, and maybe even a parade with people passing out hot chocolate and it would truly make the night enjoyable for someone like me.
