Friday Photo - Long Gone Era

Long Gone Era

These magnificent steam engines should not be limited to model train replicas. They are an historic part of our country's past and being interested in history, they represent the modernization era of America. Transportation and interstate commerce was made possible because of this machine. Being the industrious nation we are, we learned to improve upon this and and ultimately the steam engine became a relic to our more modern and technological advanced modes of transportation.

Thankfully the love of these machines endures today and a number of them still run in various parts of the country. Every time I see one, I stare in awe and imagine what life must have been like in the times when these steam engines were so important. It is enjoyable to reminisce about this long gone era.

William,

I love the photo.  Trains in Europe are so enjoyable, and we once were on one in Rome that was called the Bella Sette.  It was ultra luxurious and our Eurailpass included the ride on this particular beauty.

The old trains are beautiful in their design and a treat to really look at and appreciate...A

What an amazing photo, William.  I love trains, and the older ones are just fascinating to see and look over.  They helped build America, and they earned their place in history.

Trains are such a pinpoint in time. I love watching them and used to work for a large oil company scheduling them.  Fascinating machines.  We have a railroad park here in Scottsdale that has the neatest small train circling the park for us to ride and an actual car to walk through and see historical info.  Really cool.  Thanks for the reminder and happy Friday!

William, another great photo, and you chose a wonderful subject!  Oh, and the scenic shot is amazing, too!  Now I want to do a train ride.

William - You outdid yourself with this photograph!  I've been down to the California State Railroad Museum, in Old Sacramento, but never captured a picture quite like that one.  I think the steam, combined with an excellent choice of photo editing effects sent this one over the top!

Hi William, Twice we went to Alaska and took a land package which included a train ride across Alaska to Mt McKinley. Trains are so neat.

William - Though not quite the same thing, we have miniature trains at a local park, some of which are steam engines.

William,

What a great photo. I can't stop looking at the details of that train and thinking about all the manpower it took to build it. Every part had to be assembled and crafted to perfection. It's a science and an art, a mystery to me, the photo represents an era of jobs and opportunty for transportation, job security. The train brought people together, and took people to different locations in a way that was so exciting. I think about what it meant during war time and days of prosperity. That train is a part of American history.

Once again, you outdid yourself!

William, when I was a kid we used to go to the train station and play on the old locomotives pretending we were railroad engineers. A lot of fun and memories. Great photo!
