Colorado Springs is an amazing place to get a great outdoor workout whether you are walking, running or riding a bike. The scenery is very diverse so I find it hard to get bored. Unfortunately, in July 2011, my sweet horse accidently stepped on my foot and broke my big toe. It took 6 months to heal. I tried to run once during that 6 months and quickly figured out why the Army doctor said, “No running.” It HURT.
Fast forward to January 31, 2013. I probably can count the number of times that I’ve run over the last 18 months on one hand. At night, I find myself dreaming of running. So, I’ve decided to accept the Get Healthy in the Rain - Active Rain Challenge.
I’ve picked out 5 races to run this spring that are being held at some of the leading Colorado Springs attractions.
1. Historic Downtown Colorado Springs – St Patrick’s Day 5K and Parade - March 16, 2013
2. Air Force Academy – Brain Booster 5K (supporting Rachael’s Ribbons of Hope) March 30, 2013
3. University Of Colorado – Colorado Springs - Bash the Bluffs 5K April 13, 2013
4. Garden of the Gods- Take 5 in the Garden (5K or 5 miles) – May 4, 2013
5. Cheyenne Mountain Zoo – Run to the Shrine (5K or 10K) - May 18, 2013
In order to prepare for the first race, I may try to start running with the Jack Quinn Running Club, a group that has a somewhat informal run every Tuesday at 1800 (6pm). This group is big. On Tuesday January 22, 2013 they had 1,050 people in attendance.
