Goal: See 5 Colorado Springs attractions while running five 5K races

Colorado Springs is an amazing place to get a great outdoor workout whether you are walking, running or riding a bike.   The scenery is very diverse so I find it hard to get bored.  Unfortunately, in July 2011, my sweet horse accidently stepped on my foot and broke my big toe.  It took 6 months to heal.   I tried to run once during that 6 months and quickly figured out why the Army doctor said, “No running.”  It HURT.

Fast forward to January 31, 2013.   I probably can count the number of times that I’ve run over the last 18 months on one hand.   At night, I find myself dreaming of running.    So, I’ve decided to accept the Get Healthy in the Rain - Active Rain Challenge.

I’ve picked out 5 races to run this spring that are being held at some of the leading Colorado Springs attractions.

1.      Historic Downtown Colorado SpringsSt Patrick’s Day 5K  and Parade -  March 16, 2013

2.      Air Force Academy Brain Booster 5K (supporting Rachael’s Ribbons of Hope)  March 30, 2013

Cadet Chapel at Airforce Academy

3.      University Of Colorado – Colorado Springs  - Bash the Bluffs 5K  April 13, 2013

University of Colorado Colorado Springs UCCS

4.      Garden of the Gods- Take 5 in the Garden (5K or 5 miles)  – May 4, 2013

5.      Cheyenne Mountain ZooRun to the Shrine (5K or 10K) -  May 18, 2013

In order to prepare for the first race, I may try to start running with the Jack Quinn Running Club, a group that has a somewhat informal run every Tuesday at 1800 (6pm).    This group is big.  On Tuesday January 22, 2013 they had 1,050 people in attendance.

Sincerely,

I love that you are a fitness goal setter Sondra and all five of those 5K runs look like spectacular venues to run in. Keep up the good work and watch your feet around those stomping horse hooves.

Sondra  I should come up and run some of these.  I just love to run and have a hard time doing something 'organized'!  Tempting!

Hi, Sondra...I wish I could join you in these 5ks, but I have to walk them. I use to run all the time, but I have really bad knees now. The Garden of the Gods race sounds wonderful. I love that place. I got there every fall when we visit for Thanksgiving.

Sondra-That is a wonderful goal while also seeing the sights of Colorado. It is amazing how long it takes for something to heal. Good for you for setting a goal for something you enjoy. We need to make time for us. Have a super Friday

Sondra, running is a rush like no other if you "get it". Due to several injuries in the last few years, I too, like you even dream about it! Being outside and doing this is the best of the best, especially surrounded by the Colorado beauty. (Love that photo of the mountain--stunning).

In month ONE of living out here fulltime at Fishhawk Lake, I severed a toe and broke another one racing to get my CAT who was throwing up in the early AM--I hit the doorjam--he's lucky I didn't send him packing.

Ok, so I have to check out this contest...saw it, but didn't look into it.

Good for you! I hope you participate in many races this year. They also offer networking opportunities and blog topics for real estate professionals.

Do share photographs of the new interesting places you discover.
