A Fair Weathered Bird is Moved Outdoors

I had to smile an hour ago.  While out in my garden, I spotted a little nest with tiny bird in the Rosemary bush.  As I walked in its direction, I worried my little feathered friend had not chosen the best place to build her nest.  It’s a mere 2 feet from the ground, far too close for visiting neighborhood cats.  It’s also early in the year, and cold outside.

However, as I approached closer, I saw the little bird and nest had a familiarity to it.  Up until a week or so ago, it had been on a cabinet in my kitchen.  It had been purchased at a local crafts store.

That’s the joy of having grandkids.  Things migrate around the home and yard.  Now which grandkid gets the blame for the domicile change?  Not any at all!  Grandkids are far more valuable than things!

Alexandra - Yes, it was Dungeness, and it was all pre-cracked, fresh and delicious!  They also had wonderful pasta with a delightful sauce that had taken all day for the cook to brew.

William - Yes, California needs to do something about our state taxes, so we can become more competitive with other states for drawing business.  Afterall, we don't want to become a draw for raiding pirates like Texas Governor Rick Perry:-)  The good news is California actually got a budget balanced for the first time in years.  Perhaps other parts of our economy will begin falling in place.  Our unemployment has improved, and so has the housing market.  The little bird nest already had an egg in it.  I brought it back into the house, so it would have a better chance. . .LOL

The kids were being kids, and that's okay Myrl.

I wonder if the cat knew it was not real.  :)

OMG that is so funny and so cute.  I often find the same things w/ my cats...my stuff migrates from room to room and I find things in the oddest places.

Tom - I didn't see the cat near it, but suspect if it had seen it, it would have destroyed it, while playing.

Debbie - When I was a kid, I had a cat that was more like a pack rat than a feline.  It would hide things away in its secret bed in my closet.  It had a love of cotton balls, curlers, pot holders, things like that!

Good morning Myrl. This is too funny. I thought this was artificial but read the story with anticipation. Your grandchildren are very creative.

That's funny... kids will do the funniest things. Would love to know the motivation and thoughts behind the decision to put it in the Rosemary tree...

Myrl, what a fun "find".  Instead of a roaming gnome, you have a roaming songbird.  What fun!!!!  I hope they move it again the next time they come so you can have the pleasure of finding it again.

Myrl, That is a great story!  I love it!  I am sure that the grandchild in question was hoping to make the birds life easier!

Hi Myrl,

Great job in bringing it back in as some cat or wild predator would have torn that poor bird apart before realizing it was not a tasty treat. How cute!

Myrl - I think I sense grandkids with grandma's sense of humor in their make-up. My son used to move things around so he could watch me when I found it and laugh at Mom.

Myrl,

Your grandchildren are just as creative and fun to be around like you are here on ActiveRain!

Kids are precious and yours truly are when it comes to hide and seek!

At first I thought you used Ipicky (not sure how to spell it) so you fooled me too!

Grandchildren are a true joy and they are always testing your memory!!!

Myrl, kids and grandkids are a real treasure. Enjoy both and the unusual bird's nest, too. Looks like one I would put on my Christmas tree.
