Her 3 Solds Trumped Us: The Power Of A Referral
Recently we had the opportunity to interview to be someone's buyer's agent. Not quite a cold connection, but pretty close. We've been helping a relative with their patio home search, but so far it's just been an Internet/email only relationship, but she did recommend us for consideration.
We met at our office and what started out intended as a 20 minute or so interview turned into that, plus another hour. We talked about the Mason real estate market and why Mason is such a high demand place to live. We reviewed our latest market report, possible home matches currently for sale in Mason and a host of other topics. We parted after the meeting and I felt good about our chances of being hired to help this family find a Mason home.
But it wasn't meant to be. A couple of days later the buyer was courteous enough to send an email letting us know they were going with another agent. We know we can't win 'em all, but we don't get closer without at least pursuing the "Why" of not getting hired, and again the buyer came through with the requested feedback.
We were competing with another Mason agent that was recommended by a close personal friend, and that agent had completed THREE sales with those friends. Ladies and Gentlemen, that's the royal flush of real estate referrals! Close friends, multiple success stories and in the SAME market. We're talking theoretical as far as the buyer is concerned, and the other agent is an "actual" with those three sales.
That set of circumstances is EXACTLY why we so highly value a referral. Whether from an out of state agent to clients/friends/family here, or relatives/friends here giving us the nod to someone, there is NOTHING that beats that personal recommendation. We can mail repeatedly, make phone calls and emails, write tons of market reports and post about community after community, but those don't hold a candle to a well placed personal recommendation from someone a home buyer or seller trusts!
So the next time you hear someone talking about possibly buying or selling a home, remember to put in a word for your favorite agents, whether that's us or someone else, we ALL appreciate it!
