S.T.O.P. and Think before jumping to conclusions!S.T.O.P. and Think before jumping to conclusions!

Failed negotiations, underwriting delays, unacceptable inspection results create emotions that can run amok in our industry due to the nature of the buying and selling process. Potential buyers are making one of the biggest decisions they will ever make in their lifetimes. Sellers are sometimes wary regarding listing issues and getting the best price for their home. Or things can just go wrong and often do!

How you handle difficult situations as they arise determines your future success. So, before you blow up, burn bridges or sever a good relationship...S-T-O-P!

  • Step back!
  • Think it over
  • Organize all thoughts
  • Put the emotions away

Advice that works when utilized!

Right on target.  And more easily dealt with if Realtor and client have sort of imagined what could go wrong along the way, and either fixed it if they could or mentally prepared for it should it happen.

The photo illustration is priceless!  Without a doubt we have seen a number of folks shoot from the hip and ask questions later.  This can be especially true in real estate transactions.  Forethought is needed to not experience regret in hindsight!

Wanda, Yep that's right. A little space gives it more perspective and keeps us from saying something we might regret.

Hadn't heard STOP before. There are many different once, but they are all very similar. Stop, wait, breathe, process, and use the facts not your emotions. The jest? Get your emotions out of the equation!

Wanda:  EXCELLENT post!  Personally ... I can handle anger.  Everyone gets upset.  But when a referral partner or client that I have been working with multiple times on transactions ... or over an extended period of time ... ASSUMES something negative???  That really  upsets me.  Unnerves me.  And at times with those I have known for a long time or have busted my tush for??  Frustrates the heck out of me and hurts a bit too.

The pic is priceless!  And the wisdom within the post is too ...

Congratulations!

Excellent post and fantastic advice, but I have to admit, I've burned a few bridges even after taking your advice...........they needed to be burned, but it was done knowing what the consequences could/would be.

Wanda- this is such good advice.  We're all so quick to jump the gun... to want to "fix it" right away but your  "STOP"  makes a huge difference.  We want to work with the one who can do this in a crisis.
