IF YOU CAN TALK, YOU CAN BLOG!!!

IF YOU CAN TALK, YOU CAN BLOG!IF YOU CAN TALK, YOU CAN BLOG!!!

When we are about 1 year to 18 months of age, we learn to talk....We put sentences together soon after that...That is the first step to blogging ! You heard it right! Talking is essential to being able to blog!

Many agents do not even TRY to write a blog post---I just found that out; maybe I knew it at some level but I had someone tell me that just now and I believe it!

I think that all it takes is an interest in a subject; if you can carry on a conversation about it, you can blog about it!

"But it does not take a "writer" to learn to blog" is what I told this agent ---

That, in my humble opinion, is the problem people have with blogging; they just don't understand that putting down on paper statistics or local information does not take a master writer! I was not a writer and I have expanded my writing now so that many people now read my posts!

All it takes is an interest in becoming informed so you can inform...this wonderful business of real estate is not a matter of taking people into houses now and writing up offers---it has become much more than that.

The public does not want to buy a house if they don't know anything about the state, the county, the town or village and the STREET they may end up living on!

In my opinion, if you can talk, you can write--at least you can write information and statistics down in such a way that the public finds it interesting--nothing more than that! That is not going to require a degree in literature--as I said if you can talk and carry on a conversation, just write it down as if you are talking about it---that is the key; no mystery to it! And those who succeed at blogging have discovered that.

HOW DO YOU VIEW THE IDEA OF BLOGGING---DO YOU THINK IT NECESSARY TO BE A "WRITER" TO BLOG???

Shawna: Just as long as it gets you going--that's all I think you need to do--from my experience, once you start you tend to find it easier to do it the next time!

Anna; Thank you so much--You are so right; it is really that easy. It is so hard to get people to feel that we are being honest with them because somewhere along the line most have been convinced that they CAN'T write!!

Well I pretty much agree with all you said and there really is nothing magical about it. And I, too, believe buyers and sellers want to work with those who really do know about the local community.

But some who talk shouldn't, or perhaps shouldn't say the things they do sometimes, and they are the same ones who probably shouldn't blog.

Paula - I am not sure. Blogging is writing (at least for now, when it is more writing than video blogging or podcasting). And I have met people who have excellent communication skill, but can't write a simple post.

At one point there was a guy in our ofice, and I envied his ability to communicate, but he would come and ask my help to write a simple letter.

I, actually, have one agent like this right now.

It seems that these stills, though close, are not the same. At least in my experience.

By the way, I write and I like to write. But try to put me with a microphone in front of people (LOL)

Jeff: I think you are onto something---Maybe it's devine intervention? Those who can' seem to get the blogging thing down are those who feel somehow defeated before they even try--so I think that the very act of sitting down wth a key board and getting out a few words, work on those until they sound pretty good, then move on to the next one--you can't do that while you are talking. The spoken word is just that; it is done. With the written word, you have the opportunity to edit yourself as much as you like!...re-writing is a very good thing! :)

Jon: I have seen those too and I was one of them! I couldn't write a sentence that was considered worth writing outside of the standard stuff that you need to get on in this world, and yet I would stand up in front of crowds and talk and get a great response!--I learned that after that first sentence and then the next, I could make some real sense out of my writing. So I listened to something that I had recorded for my former work, and I thought "That sounds pretty good"...and I took the recording, put headphones on and sat at the computer and wrote down word for word what I had said---what do you know, I got the connection between the word and the written word!..the best thing about writing in my opinion is that you have a second chance: If you speak and you don't like how it came out, you are out of luck! However, if you write and don't like it, then you re-write it until you do!

Paula you can't put it any more simply than this.  If you can talk you can write.  So, so simple that I can hardly beiieve it.

Paula, the best blog posts are the one's that come off like a real conversations and let the writer's personality shine through their writing. Great post, as always!

I started blogging a few weeks ago and even though I was never considered a "writer" I have gotten a lot of positive feedback. The best part is how much I actually enjoy taking a situation or idea and writing about it. One of the parts of my job I have learned I really enjoy.

Charita: Yes it is and yet there are people who STILL think they can't write---I think it ha something to do with willingness.

Sharon: You are too kind but you do speak the truth about the conversational posts --they really do come off the best.

Kaera: We do don't we--do you think it is a prerequisite? I almost feel that we develop the talking skills along with our writing!

Jennifer: That's good--I believe that if you don't have to overcome a major obstacle when it comes to writing, (like writers blog or major doubt) then you can sail into the blogo-sphere and become an overnight feature Queen!

That is excellent thinking - If you can talk you can blog.  Interestingly enough, I know a gal, who is exceptionally shy and rarely speaks.  Yet, she writes the most incredible stories.

Gene: I think that is what is so wonderful about this blogging thing--it pays off in so many ways and you do NOT have to be a literary genius to do it well!

Mryl: There is nothing like repressed talent!  Sounds like she has it inside of her and thank goodness she gets it out!

Paula,

Congrats on the feature, probably true that if you can talk you can blog, but that doesn't necessarilry transfer to blogging WELL.

I always try to remind myself to try to answer the who-what-where-why-when and how so the post makes sense.

And re-reading a written post and editing before posting is always a good thing, imho.

And another thing, it helps when we don't have technical issues blocking the way, Glad you didn't give up :)

Greg: No, I didn't give up! I have a technique that I use all the time and that is to, as you suggest, re-write as many times as is needed to make a post as perfect as possible!
