Be aware that rotted wood can be hidden for a while.
The rotted wood can be progressing for many years, hidden behind shrubs, covered in paint, or just overlooked. This doesn’t mean that the rot is being intentionally covered up; we just don’t always see it when we have it.
It may be a good idea to actively look for rotted wood. If you do not know what to look for, consider hiring a qualified dry rot repair contractor in your local area.
