The city of Plymouth has the old time downtown with offices and stores located around a central park. Plymouth Township is 16.6 square miles on the Western side of Detroit and Wayne County. In 2000, the City of Plymouth had a population of about 9,000 and Plymouth Township had a population of 27,798. The city is one of the oldest communities in Michigan. The City of Plymouth is 1/8 the size of the township, only about 2.27 square miles in the middle of the Township.
Plymouth and Plymouth Township have over 81 acres of parks! And they even have a public golf course and a water splash park for the kids. During the summer there is music in Kellogg Park, Plymouth Arts & Crafts Festival, A chili cook off in the fall, Plymouth Fall festival. And of course in the Winter there is the Plymouth Ice Carving Competition and Show. A town with a small time atmosphere.
There is not a lot of traffic congestion in the city as there are not many big box stores. Of course they do have all the shopping you need to do within 10 miles. Novi Town center, 12 Oaks Mall, and Laurel Park Place are all mega shopping areas that are just a short drive from Plymouth & Plymouth Township.
