Do you work with Insurance Companies?
When something goes wrong with your insured property, you want a contractor that can respond quickly and do quality work. Over the years we have worked with many of the larger insurance companies in meeting this objective. Sometimes it is a call from the insurance adjustor, other times it is from the insured themselves.
Working on an insurance claim for a homeowner requires some additional steps for the contractor. Of course the contractor has to have proof of insurance, qualifying contractor’s license, workers compensation insurance, and all the important documentation. Most contractors are required to have this, but rarely are asked to prove it! There will also be additional paperwork and forms that the homeowner may never see; breakdown of costs, legal notices and lien releases. There are many contractors who aren’t willing to do the things that an insurance company requires.
Tromler Construction will happily submit whatever the insurance company requires; it’s just a part of doing business.
Many homeowners do not realize that they can use their own contractor. When the insurance adjustor comes out to your home, they will often have a contractor with them. This contractor usually has done much work with the insurance company and on an in-house list of qualified contractors. This is not a bad thing; but you may want to use someone that you are familiar with. Do you have a contractor that you have used in the past that you would rather use? It is our experience that you can do that.
After the adjustor visit, you will receive a claim amount that they will pay for the loss. This cost will be based, in part, on the numbers generated from the visit. You can request to use your own contractor; some insurance companies will pay you the claim and leave the hiring to you, others will pay the contractor direct.
