Fresh raspberries-Steps away from my back door

Good afternoon everyone. Last year I planted 3 raspberries bushes and they have done extremely well.  Raspberries are one of my fav fruits although I love most kinds of fruit. While they did well last year I didn't have any raspberries but this year is a different story. There a lot of berries on there and I have tasted about 6 of them that have ripened so far and I can tell you there is no comparison to what you buy in the store.

It has been so much fun just going out the back door and walking the short distance into the garden and picking those berries. I have been lucky so far the birds haven't discovered them but I will be putting the netting on them very soon before they get any ideas.  Now if I am lucky and the blueberries, strawberries and cherries will do as well although I have had 2 strawberries off the original strawberry that I bought last year. I have a total of 10 plants the others I got this year as well as the blueberries and cherries. I took this pic this morning and while there were only 3 or 4 ripe they are loaded with them so I should be able to have fresh berries every morning on my cereal. YUMMY!!!!

Sharon:

Very nice good job. I planted a peach tree a couple of year ago and this year it was loaded down with great peaches. The Birds are giving me fits. I think I am going to buy an owl. lol

Alan-I had planted a weeping peach tree last year and it had small peaches started on it but I believe the borer's got it,  a pest I had never heard of until it was too late. Birds can be pesky but at least they don't kill the tree. I have never needed an owl before but have heard they are helpful

Hopefully the birds won't discover them and you'll enjoy them all summer.  Lucky you they are doing so well, I love raspberries.  Every week when I shop I pick up blackberries, blueberries and raperberries.....so good for us Sharon.

Roger--I will be putting netting over them soon. So far there has been only a few of them so that is probably why the birds haven't discovered them yet. I like most all berries but not too fond of blackberries. Now cherries I could eat a LOT of them but they are about 75 calories a cup so I eat them in moderation.

Christine-It is indeed and this is the first time I have ever had fresh out of the garden or grown them.

Michael-Not a diet, a lifestyle change and of course fruit is a part of that although I always have eaten fruit but now I am growing it.

That's great!  How convenient....and healthy!  I'm not a fan of raspberries because of the seeds....they get stuck in my teeth...annoying.  I do have some strawberry plants in my yard....a surprise left behind from the previous owner.  Last year we only got a couple, but this year they really have a lot on them.  I'm hoping the animals don't get at them.

Sharon-Definitely healthy and so tasty. The seeds haven't bothered me but I don't like getting seeds stuck in my teeth as generally it would be in a hard to reach spot.

Erin-So do I and it looks like I will as there are a lot of berries on there.

Sharon, you do have a green thumb...your flower garden and now your berries.  I love berries of any type.

Sharon - we used to have raspberries, and you're right,  they are so different fresh off the vine. Hope you're enjoying the little beauties on your cereal "every" morning.

Rebecca-I think it is more of a passion than a green thumb. I like all berries except for blackberries.

Debb-It is amazing how much difference there is. It is too soon for many on my cereal as only a handful have ripened so far so when I spot a couple I pick them and eat them. I should get them more abundantly as the summer progresses.

Sharon,

Boy you are amazing, and rasberries are so much fun to grow.  As we were driving around the Loire Valley, we stopped at a store.  In front of the store (it was really like a little house), they had rasberry bushes along the wall...love your gardening passion. A

Yummmm!  I have golden raspberries and my only complaint is that the ripen so late, it's hard to wait.  But the birds don't seem to bother with them.  Maybe they're harder to spot than the red.
