In order to know where you are going, you have to look at your past ... This advice will be taught to my children and my children's children.
I guess as I grow older, I'm beginning to understand the importance of a rich culture. There are so many good lessons to instill in the young ones so they know not to forget their roots.
Last night was yet another teachable moment for my family. Chinese all over the world celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival. It's the 15th day of the 8th month on the Lunar calendar.
The Mid-Autumn Festival is also known as the Mooncake Festival, or Lantern Festival. As the names decribe it, we eat Mooncake or the kids play with lanterns. Its origin is to celebrate the end of the harvest season 10BC. It's truly a long tradition that Chinese all over the world continue to celebrate today.
I want my children to know their long history of rich culture. It's challenging indeed. Both of them don't really know basic chinese conversation. I'm concerned that they will forget our daily culture of respect and manners (which I'm proud of).
I'm taking lots of pictures so they will remember them. So, they can pass them on to their children and their children's children.
Between my sister and I, we have 5 children. They played with their lanterns last night.
