Rubber Duck Derby for a Cause at Weeki Wachee Springs, Florida
The three Rotary Clubs of Hernando County, Florida, came together for a new community project "Save Weeki Wachee Springs" by spearheading an effort to remove an invasive green algae from the water.
The rubber duck race took place yesterday as a fundraiser to help in this project. Each duck was one entry and ducks were sold single or as "quack packs"! Obviously, many people participated in this first duck race of its kind on the still beautiful Weeki Wachee river.
The Hernando County Rotary Clubs hope to not only raise awareness to the problem of algae but also to encourage the communities of Hernando County to rally around this cause and help keeping our beautiful Weeki Wachee River alive and healthy.
The Rotary Club of Spring, Florida is a community service organization involved in many local projects throughout the year including the annual Dictionary Project for Elementary Schoolers and the Brain Bowl competition for Middle School Students.
