Thoughts about Firepits on a Friday Night

By
Real Estate Agent with EXP Realty, LLC

Are you ready to relax and unwind after a long week?  How about unwinding in front of a toasty fire pit on a nippy November evening?   Add some friends and a nice beverage of your choice....

Fire Pit with Wine Glasses

There's never enough time to do all the nothing you want.

I wonder,

When did fire pits really become popular?

Are they more popular in some parts of the country than in other places?   People in Colorado certainly enjoy them.

Are fire pits a way to have a campfire without camping?

Sincerely,

Outdoor fireplaces and fire pits are popular in Dallas.  I'm betting some people in Dallas are doing just what you suggested tonight!

Interesting questions you bring up, I dont have one of the modern firepits, still use my old fashioned campfire.

Sondra, firepits are BIG here at the Lake! We have "firepit training" so that we may remaing an accredited Firewise Community. Now, that's if it is built into your lawn, essentially. I actually just ordered an outdoor fire pit, but it's actually a gas firetable...ridiculously expensive but boyhowdy, it's FINE lookin'! Fire in the center, surrounded by gorgeous tuscan-like ceramic tile so that you can put drinks/food on it and it sits on a drum. Really gorgeous. And propane with something called "fireglass", fabulous! I just bought it day before yesterday, I think.

Frontgate.com is the company. They're pretty darned expensive, but I have found that their products are almost always top-of-the-line.

Sondra: Jack London's has firepits in the center of the tables outside in the Su Vecino Courtyard where my new Carmel-by-the-Sea office is located. I predict some serious wine tasting in my future! Love your photo, it's making me go get a glass to continue commenting on AR. It IS Friday evening, what am I doing here when I could be at my office?

We will enjoy the evening wine but do not have a fire pit.

Enjoy some good books during the chilly nights.

Good morning, Thank you all for your comments.

Roy, I think I've managed to read 4 novels within the last month now that the temps have dropped.

Roger, well said....

Hella, the wine tasting at Jack London's sounds wonderful.  Have fun.

Hi Gayle, fire pit training.  That sounds like it is a wonderful safety program.  You have just described the type of fire pit that I would like to have installed at my house!  I'm thinking they may cost more upfront but the ease of not worrying about wood and ashes would make it more convenient to use on a regular basis.  I'll check out the website.

Bob, I don't think anything can beats the old fashioned camp fires.  Make me think of roasting marshmallows and hot dogs.

Hi Sharon, I was wondering about their popularity in Texas.  Thanks.

Hi Debbie, wood stoves.....I agree with you.  I love those too.  I can't imagine a Colorado winter without one.  We haven't used ours yet.  p.s  name changed in July. :)

Hi Sondra. I am beginning to see more newer homes in my area adding these outdoor barbecue fire pits. Yes, I think they are nice to have for entertaining and relaxing on a nice evening.

Sondra:  I hate to be a downer, but not a huge fan of the fire pits.  We have so many of them in our neighborhood, that some evenings it looks like a block of houses are burning down.  The air is thick with smoke.  For people with respiratory issues or migraine sensitivies these things can be a menace ... driving them indoors and making them start up fans and A/C to clear the air.  All the communities in our area have burning bans because of these issues.  No burning of leaves or other materials.  Yet ... firepits are okay?

Like I said, I don't mean to be a downer regarding this issue.  But I have family members with health concerns.  And firepits have become a personal issue for us, because of that ...

Sondra  You have been to our place and have seen our outdoor chimineas  While they are not exactly a 'firepit' they are perfect for sitting by the fire and relaxing.  Our guests love them and we do too.  We tell our guests "all this is for us, you are just helping pay for it!".  Occasionally, we have someone with respiratory issues but we do advertise our fires on our website.

You ask "Are you ready to relax and unwind after a long week?"  ...change that to 'day'!

Enjoy your day!

Hi Sondra. Well I must admit, having lived in warm climates so much I have never heard of or seen a fire pit, but it does sound very relaxing I would imagine on a chilly night. So many of the homes here have fire places and most people never use them. You will probably think I am weird with your post but that Calvin and Hobbes comic quote stood out for me. I in particular am a master at that nothing game. It is where my contented self prefers to live most of the time and I give great priority to it. Usually the problem with wood burning fireplaces and the chimineas is cleaning the ashes out afterward. But you only go round once, so it is all good.
