Fishhawk Lake Real Estate--Showing Your Kids the Simple Life

With social media being such an expedient factor to all things technical, and children as young as 1-2 years old being handed cell phones and iPod's to play with by their busy parents, I portend to be a troubadour for all things SIMPLE in life. Long ago, I learned from some psychology aficionado that a human's basic personality is SET by the age of five. In order to round out a child's life experience by that time, it is imperative, in my opinion to open them to things that are physically in their world. And I don't mean teaching them how to text. Mallard duck with babies-Gayle Rich-Boxman 2011 Copyrighted All Rights Reserved

Show them a natural environment that is healthy and thriving, such as birds  flying, diving and basking in the beauty of one of their favorite water havens. Nature's families.

Let them see night skies unencumbered by streetlights, absolutely FILLED with stars galore, including shooting ones!

How about crisp clean air?

Forests filled with mosses of all kinds, tiny local flora, scat left by some of nature's wild creatures. Take them through the changes of each season, from the delicate birth of critters and blooming plants in spring to the annual spawning of salmon trudging their way back to their birthplace yearly to procreate and eventually end their lives along lake shorelines in winter. The glory of Mother Nature is all here to explore!

These are the symbols of a simple life that can put a lifetime stamp on someone's soul. Many crave getting back to this simple life as adults. That often is how and why they find me. There is a yearning to be filled from decades before of the mysteries of childhood from building forts in forests to counting salamanders in shallow waters. This untouched hidden pocket where I live, work and play here at Fishhawk Lake remains placed in a time in history when we weren't so loud and so busy all of the time.

Come join me in resurrecting your childhood, and pass onto your children the gift of what you so appreciated about the simple tenets that Mother Nature gave to you freely as you grew up.

If this speaks to your senses, please allow me the opportunity to share my slice of paradise with you and your family.

Gayle,

Amen to this post, I am with you 100%.  Nature and its exploration is a phenomenal source of knowledge, we both get so much joy watching the little ones on the beach digging, building, picking up shells, laughing at the waves, plunging in, etc.  They are learning so much more than a lifetime of texting. Hi Gayle, Nicely said! I can remember making forts, lifting up rocks to look for salamanders, collecting lightening bugs in a jar (with air holes) and more. Letting these wonders be taken over by gadgets is something that all of us..adults as well should try to avoid!

Here, here. I can attest to the fact that a child-hood spent exploring nature teaches us many valuable lessons. And staring at the stars - always a fascinating and inexpensive form of entertainment ( and centering). So glad that my sons are raising their children with a love and appreciation for nature and the great outdoors.

You certainly can't ever go wrong with exploring nature Gayle. Get outside, breathe deep, toss the devices aside for awhile.

Amen to this is right. While I do enjoy the connections I have made online because to me they are priceless. Nothing can beat nature and the simplicity of it. You so effortlessly sell your slice of paradise because you love it and everybody can tell that from your words not to mention your gorgeous photos

Alexandra~it's certainly a much better way of being interactive, and I listened to a great interview with a man by the name of Raffi Cavoukian on NPR about how the internet has a light side/dark side for kids and young people. This is what prompted me to write about this.

Cindy, you and I would have made great childhood friends!

Debb, I thank God that I had the kind of parenting that allowed for rustic cottage living, that gave me a solid base for falling in love with all tht Fishhawk Lake brings to me. You and I both treasure our upbringing!

Gary, one of the many reasons why I love Fishhawk Lake--no cell service!

Brad, YUP! I love that I can work from home and sit and watch the lake at the same time. Life is GOOD!

Those days for a lot of the next generation will not be something they'll remember.  Just think of all the kids who are raised in cities and will never experience Mother Nature in her raw state.

Kristin, this "family" foto seemed fitting for my message!

James, all the more reason to keep a special place like this pristine, with no weekend rentals, private fishing, etc.

Ahhh... now I know why I'm a Chocoholic!  (ok, so this has nothing to do with mother nature).  When I was 3, we moved to Bellingham, WA.  I remember a neighborly man who offered me a Hershey's chocolate bar (the entire trunk of his car was loaded with candy bars).  My naked 'personality' was set in stone at that tender precious age.

Yes indeed!  Who doesn't love... Men & Chocolate ;-)

Very good message!  It's such a shame that so many kids are unconnected with nature and the natural world that surrounds us.  Once they get to experience it, they all love it!

Georgina, I believe that if you and I could be given one day with children to show them our beautiful surroundings, they would go away forever changed....
