The key to successful marketing starts with your ability to capture the attention of the reader.  This applies to online and offline marketing.  Whether it’s a postcard, newspaper ad or a blog post, if the reader’s interest isn’t sparked, you lost the reader!!

Each of those marketing methods begins with the “teaser” called the “Title.”  Yes, it’s a teaser, and if you are not successful in tantalizing the reader’s imagination to continue the journey of reading your marketing, the joke’s on you!!

The graphic is the next eye catching item that contributes greatly to your blog post and your print advertising.  Make it interesting or funny or have some connection to the title.  It’s another teaser in the form of a photo or graphic!!!

If you’re title is a winner and your graphic held their interest, they’ll click on your online post or continue to read your postcard/print ad offline.  The first few lines of your blog post need to be interesting enough for the reader to continue.  Content must be good enough to draw interest.  The postcard needs to be clean and easy to read, and the same with the newspaper ad.  Online or offline, the same principles apply.

Marketing is all about capturing the recipient’s attention and holding it long enough for that person to read what you have to say.  It’s a reflection of your personality.  You should not hold back with whatever “flavor” you have to share.  Of course, we are always walking a fine line not to make it distasteful, but we can’t please everyone.

We market to everyone, and if we capture the attention of most people, we may consider our marketing method to be successful.  Marketing should be fun in order to do it properly.  Make it fun, short and sweet.  It all starts with a teaser, but what doesn’t!!!!

Barbara ... You have to be creative, humorous, catchy when advertizing real estate. It is flirting in the property match making. Doing your best to shine loud and clear. The selling of the sizzle not just the steak. No place for "Nice Home, Nice Neighborhood, Be Happy Here"  What is so nice about  the area, home, give me specifics I need to hear, know about.

Barbara, always great advice on marketing from you! Most people usually look at the title and the contact information and barely the message.

Barbara, I think you've teased us enough! Your title works and the first few lines not only tell what it's going to be about, they captured our attention. Great example of what you're talking about!

A little teaser is a sure way to grab readers' attention.  Then the photo and content must make them want to stay and come back for more.

Yes Barbara, everything begins with a teaser, at least in marketing!  Gotta get the public's attention somehow.  This sort of reminds me of the Superbowl commercials.  Most of them were very boring and didn't peak my interest enough.  Only a few I thought were worthy of attention.  In marketing for real estate, it's the same thing.  You got to grab your demographic's attention and market to their interest.

Hi Barbara, what a great post!  I completely agree with you that the title or subject line needs to be interesting to have the ad or email read.  I have some marketing tips that suggest starting with a question.  Thanks for sharing!
