There was an interesting piece in Wired yesterday about Google+ and Facebook, generated by intense speculation about the meaning of the departure from Google of Vic Gundotra, the man behind Google+. It followed up on a few earlier articles I had read about strategic changes by the social media giants in response to consumers' moves away from desktop/laptop platforms to mobile media.
Facebook is apparently going to be splitting its main functions into discrete mobile-based apps, and Google looks to be considering something similar. From that perspective, the recent big acquisitions by both companies seem to make more sense.
The article is worth a quick read, and you may want to dig deeper:
Why Google+ Should Give Up Its Battle Against Facebook
There's no question that what we're doing as Realtors with social media will need to adapt as well. It's still unclear how this will all play out, but in any case, catching an early glimpse of the agenda may help prepare us and lessen our surprise.
Just tell yourself "Change Is Fun!"
