Yes, a great title and a great quote. And, of course a wonderful message.  Character is definitely a big differentiator in life.

Exactly.  Never do anything you can't undo and make sure everything you do is something your parents would be proud of. ;-)

More than your parents be proud of, YOU have to approve, it is your self esteem and morals. Do the right thing, every time.

Wonderful post. Your character is the one thing you can never hide from others for very long.  We all make mistakes and a bad choice or two, however, when you acknowledge those errors this speaks volumes and that part of your character is seldom forgotten.

That's a lovely quote to ponder and I agree with your interpretation of the role character plays in business and life.

Being of good character is as important as being dependable, reliable and many good traits of an honest upright person.

In the end the cream will rise to the top.  For humans the force that brings you to the top is character.

Situational ethics should not be an issue because if you have excellent ethics, the situation will not matter. Right is right all of the time, not just when someone is watching you.

I love the quote, it's so very true.  The best way to remain above reproach in buiness is to ask yourself two questions:  1) Is it the best option for my client, 2)  Is it legal and/or ethical.

Beyond that, being mature and professional in all situations is all that it takes.

A few weeks ago, I was in a room of maybe a dozen people, one of whom I'd worked with in the past (though he isn't a realtor).

After the get together, I reached out to 2 different people and wanted to suggest they keep their shields ready.  In both of those cases, each of the people I wanted to whisper to simply thanked me, and assured me that person's reputation was clear to them from their own networks. And no, they weren't likely to entertain much involvment with him.

Character and reputation, good or bad, are both huge differentiators.

Solid advice.  If you believe you are a handshake guy or girl you have to approach all business with that mindset.
