One thing I always look for on Tuesdays is the post from our Ambassadors Bill & Liz Spear... It is always full of useful information and I always learn something of value from them...

ASK AN AMBASSADOR: Original Content Is King, Queen & The Whole Royal Court!
You've got a date with your keyboard and your blog. What's it going to be today? And while that choice might seem pretty trivial, that choice directly correlates to whether you're wasting your time blogging or creating a long lasting post that leads to consumer phone calls!
Even when from an authorized content provider, duplicating content that can be found on over 5,000 other agent sites isn't exactly going to make your phone ring. You need truly original content if you want to get to page 1 of the search results. And we're not even going to touch on just how bad actual plagiarism is, mmkay??
And not just any original content is going to have the results you want. While the "10 Things" type list posts are great reading, unless they provide a unique value to your LOCAL buyers and sellers you're still not going to get their attention. You're competing against some apartment dwelling journalist who's never actually bought a home and is published by MSN, Yahoo, Time or the like. Going up against the big guns in the general real estate advice category is a hard battle to win. Not to say those topics aren't important and you shouldn't write them, but they're not the core of what makes the phone ring.
What's core? UNIQUE LOCAL information. When we look at our AR blog traffic, some of the leaders in Views and Clicks are about topics that won't be covered by Yahoo, MSN, ZTR or any of the big sites. They're hyperlocal:
- Subdivision posts
- Niche real estate searches
- Local events
Those topics aren't duplicate materials. They're unique and they get us great search placement. They're filled with what home buyers want (the ability to easily search for homes that fit them) and homes sellers want (what is my home worth? How fast are homes like mine selling?).
Filling the need for pertinent local information that has long lasting value is key. We have posts from several years ago still pulling clicks because they fill a void that no one outside of our local market would have the expertise to fill.
Create ORIGINAL local content that gives consumers what they want and your phone WILL ring! We're currently working with more buyers than we ever have, and it's all thanks to AR blogging and our WP site custom IDX searches. You can have the same if you identify the unique local value proposition that YOU provide your market and write to that!
