Week 5, Day 3 is for windows!

By

Today was the day for putting in 12 new Anderson 400 windows. These are wood windows, vinyl clad on the outside. The old windows were wood, but they were 20 year old single pane windows. They leaked cold air into the house in the winter, and I am sure our air conditioning cooled the neighborhood in the Summer!

The old windows were taken out in one piece and the new ones set right into the hole. We had one window that was pretty bad out of square, so the installer took about 5 times longer with this one that the others, but he got it done. All 12 were installed in about 3 hours time. This included adding trim work on the outside and caulking both inside and out. The team was from Home Depot and they did a terrific job. No complaints whatsoever.

The picture on the left shows the completed windows in the kitchen. Two more were installed in the great room, 3 in the guest bath, two in my office downstairs, and two in the unfinished part of the basement. Why there you might ask? Well, I am glad you did ask. The old windows there never fit properly so the new ones will keep the basement much warmer and cooler.

The back splash installer was back today and finished grouting the back splash tiles he installed yesterday. I really like these jobs that take just a day or two to complete!

I heard from the appliance people today and the cook top will be delivered tomorrow so we can cut the hole in the granite for it, with the rest coming next Wednesday. Not sure what the delay was for, but at least we have a semi solid delivery date.

you made me stop and count my windows in my head.  12 seemed like a small number until I realized I only had 15

Tammy - Those were just some of the windows on the back of the house. We did the upstairs windows some years back. I think I have about 10 more to go before they are all changed out. Too much $$$ to do them all at one time!

Good afternoon Peter. I like the look. I had two of these put in my upstairs garage for ventilation and looks.

I like the fact that your contractors have been on schedule and not all stacked up. Things seem to be going smoothly so far Peter.
