Fishhawk Lake Birkenfeld News Local Benefit at The Birk

A benefit, put together and supported by many, was held at The Birk Pub and Eatery yesterday. Mike and Wendy Ingraham, the owners of The Birk and a big part of this small community of Birkenfeld, Oregon, located in the coastal range of Oregon, just a few miles past Fishhawk Lake,  pulled this together, along with other volunteers to raise money for Annie Jackson, friend and employee who recently lost her young husband, Nathan tragically the day after their 7 year wedding anniversary.

Many of us donated items for a silent auction and raffles, and musicians donated their time to play to raise funds for Annie and her family. Mike and Wendy opened up their home in the back of The Birk as the area for the auction items to be presented.

I popped in yesterday, just before the festivities got completely underway, on a beautiful sunny Sunday. There were GOBS of items donated and Faith Samuelson, along with Liz Davidson and others, were pricing, marking and placing items for people to bid on for the silent auction. Faith also made a "money tree" which was placed on a nearby wall, for those who wanted to just donate money. The Ingrahams' dogs wanted to help, but mostly wanted love!

Everything from massage gift certificates to wine baskets, art, a mini i-pad and furniture as well as equipment for the home were donated. I donated a couple of my prints, one on stretched canvas, a Fishhawk Lake landscape, and the other a hammock photo, on "Woodsnap", a wooden frame (and Woodsnap donates a tree every time that you order a photo to be printed on their wood frames).

There were a few milling about as I made my way into the pub, which offers live music on most weekends and this was the kick-off to the spring/summer season for that at The Birk.

I hope that it was successful! Thanks to all who participated, who gave their time and efforts to support Annie Jackson, and thanks again to Mike and Wendy Ingraham--you ROCK!!!

I hope they raised a lot of money for Annie and her family. I too love it when a community comes together to support another in a time of need.

Ron & Alexandra Seigel--I think we really do personify the true meaning of "community".

Debb Janes--so far just the money raised from the silent auction (and there are other parts to this that haven't been counted yet), they raised $7,000 approximately! Both my pieces sold, too. AND I won the bid on a "rustic basket".

Jan Sohlman--they think that between yesterday and a "go fund me" site, that they've raised enough for her to make her house payments for a year--that was the goal!

Gary Woltal--Lake Wobegone isn't the ONLY lake community that is a, well...community! I love the people here, we all support each other in so many ways.

Laura Allen, Lake Tahoe - Truckee Real Estate for Sale www.TahoeLauraLuxuryHomes.com --Ty Curtis, the headliner for yesterday's entertainment dedicated a song to Nathan, Annie's deceased husband and they all circled Annie and he put his head on her shoulder while he sang to her. I was in tears hearing about this, when Wendy shared it with me.

Hi Gayle - That's one of the things I love about small communities - when something bad happens, everyone pulls together. I hope the event was a great success.

Dick Greenberg--it sounds like it was a resounding success! So far,  almost $14,000 raised without some of the other monies fully counted yet.

There is a "go fund me" account that one of her dear friends set up that is doing quite well (part of the almost $14K, mentioned above).

Love for Annie

I won a bid for a "rustic basket" ($140)  and also sold my two prints of my photographs!

You are SO right--we rally to help one another!

Gayle

It's great to see the community help someone in challenging times.

A fun event for a worthy cause in lending a helping hand.

Good luck and success.
