To travel to the moon it is a journey of over 200,000 miles. The miles I have traveled on Active Rain have brought me to this juncture meeting the 200,000 point post. Just as a journey to the moon would most definitely be filled with anticipation, rocky turbulence, peaceful bliss, moments of deep thought and being a part of team working in unison to reach our destination so has this unique and rewarding road through Active Rain become to me.
There have been moments of anticipation with the first blogging attempts with nervous energy flowing through as I hit a new submit button and then awaiting if there would even be a response and then to be thrilled that there are those who reach out to newbies and welcome them in the group with open arms and without judgment. Gracious hostesses and hosts ran to my blog to let me know I had been read. I do not know of a more sought after goal of a writer than to know he or she has been read and made a difference in someone's life.
There has been rocky turbulence as I embarked upon the road not only to self discovery but also that of what my place in this vast community would become. Setting goals for myself and for my audience would become a daily habit. Yet this habit was one I looked forward to each moment of each day. As the days passed on I developed my place, my purpose and my writing not only for the Active Rain members, my fellow agents and colleagues but also for the sellers in our marketplace and the consumers who read my blog and very rarely comment.
When this turbulence calmed a state of peaceful bliss entered into my very soul, my spirit and my heart. This bliss was the comfort of knowing I had found a place that I belonged and could contribute to the community at large. Paying it forward for all the blessings in my life and world is who I am. BNI teaches that Givers Gain and there is not another more fitting community than Active Rain where this holds more true for real estate agents.
Moments of deep thought encouraged through the meeting of great writers who stir the essence of perception and encourage welcomed debate such as Andrew J Lenza, Jennifer Bukaty and Lola Audu. These writers are not the ones that you can skim over and write a comment of 'great post'. No, these writers reach into your soul and through to the core of who you really are and what you stand for. You are either moving backwards or forwards in life, you are either learning or fermenting. Writers of this caliber create and nurture one's desire to grow and to learn more, they help teach us how to think.
This is a skill that is sorely lacking in our society. Presently watching the candidates running for the highest office of our nation is proof enough that the majority of people do not think for themselves and many have not ever been taught how to think. I was blessed by being born into a family of very highly educated people, among those, my parents who graduated from Stanford University, my grandparents from Riga and Kiev Universities and now a daughter who is going on to a Master's degree at the age of 19. Our homes were filled with books and NO Television sets thus I was encouraged to engage my mind and create my own fantasies, developing my imagination. So I learned how to write poetry and read good books. Thank you to all the wonderful writers who contribute to Active Rain. This is so far more reaching than just a real estate water cooler.
Being a part of a team and doing my part within that team created the very nature of the spirit of my blog and welcomes those around me to enter within these gates mold themselves into becoming team players. I began this journey without an inclination of what Active Rain was about nor about the power of this community in a variety of areas and platforms. The power of the comment, something seemingly minuscule yet grand beyond what the commenter alone can imagine. The comment to me and then the comment back to you create a dialogue, a dance of words and thoughts sprinkled with feelings that are unleashed in Cyberspace where many souls connect deeper than through any off line friendship.
I once mentioned this interesting phenomenon to Jason Crouch. People feel comfortable to reach out however introverted and shy they might be when you meet them at the grocery store, yet they come alive when their fingers start to type at their keyboard. This is why on line dating services work so well, this is why people meet and fall in love on line without ever meeting one another physically. Souls connect and dance to the tune of the Internet where the world is that much smaller allowing hearts to connect that once had no chance of ever connecting. Thus the comment brings on a life of its' own and becomes a part of the team playing around blogs and ultimately catching the eye of a consumer somewhere who says, I like this person, I want to do business with this person.
So the entire team of our readers, subscribers and colleagues bring alive a blog that creates the atmosphere in which business is cultivated and at the end of the day, there is one happy seller, one happy buyer, one happy agent who just got paid and one happy group of supporters who are the cheering section offering more chants of a job well done in the comments of another success story on our blog and that in turn, starts the cycle all over again. And so on and on it goes.
