Until the middle of May my real estate life, coupled with a surgery my husband had, had me hopping from morning until night - and then some. It wasn't until the middle of the month that I posted about the Sensei-Grasshopper challenge and said I'd be happy to share some of the time management forms that I used in an attempt to keep all facets of my life in check, see what's out of kilter, and then alter plans to get back on track.
Two of my favorite Active Rain members contacted me and said they'd like to chat about the forms and see if they could learn a tidbit or two to help balance their lives, Praful Thakkar and Bob Crane. I emailed forms to both of them, and suggested times to talk. Bob Crane is out in the field most of this week, with spotty cell reception, so we're hoping to talk tomorrow or Sunday.
But Praful Thakkar and I connected, and in person no less! Praful happened to be in Monterey, California, this week, attending a seminar and had Wednesday evening free. While it didn't make sense for him to drive the 2+ hours to San Francisco (I know how intense motivational seminars are) it happened that my afternoon was free, so my husband and I drove to Monterey, and enjoyed a walk together along the gorgeous Pacific Grove coast, and then met Praful for dinner at a delightful, little tucked-away vegetarian restaurant.
Over dinner we chatted about all sorts of things; how San Francisco was his port of arrival in this country, how his IT career took him to New York, and now he's enjoying a new career in real estate. A big fan of Brian Buffini, Buffini and Company, we talked about the principles he's learned from them.
We also talked about how he has a problem saying "no" and that time gets away from him too easily. I mentioned how balance in life is important to me, which is why I structured my forms the way they are, and that reviewing our weeks and where our time was spent is as important as planning them in the first place.
I'm hoping that, perhaps on his travel back to New Hampshire, he can see how he might modify my forms for his use, can call me to discuss anything in particular that he might find helpful.
So which of us was the Sensei and which the Grasshopper? I'd say a bit of both. And isn't that the way it usually is on Active Rain?
