Why Homes Grow In Value and Vehicles Do Not.

Why Homes Grow In Value and Vehicles Do Not.

That house is on a piece of land which has value.  The location of the land has value.  The house is merely a construct on a piece of land.

A home of 2500 sq.ft. on 1/4 acre will have one market value.  The same model next door on 1 acre will have more value.  Land has value and can never be replaced.  As the value of the land appreciates, so does the property on it.

Vehicles are like a melting popsicle.  Good when first tasted but eat quickly because the value will quickly melt away.

Under All Is The Land.

And all vehicles do is travel over all that land - losing value every mile.

Lenn great quick explanation.

However, it works a little different if the home is on a pair of wheels, even with the big satellite dish out front ....... LOL

Makes perfect sense and also explains why houses in my area are so expensive...not much land to expand on.  (plus close to NYC)...this is why they build up.

I like that analogy with the Popsicle.  Land...beneath all, for sure.

Michael.  That's the history.

Margaret.  Absolutely.

Sheila.  Thanks.

George.  If the property is on wheels, it's not real estate.  It's a vehicle with vehicle tags, not a deed.

Debbie.  Exactly my point.

Gary.  Thanks.

Have you checked the price of a 1957 Chevy recently?

Lenn- I too like the analogy with the popsicle!  There's only so much land, what we have is it.  But somehow, we manage to always be able to come up with metal, rubber and a different design.  Drive it off the showroom floor and you've lost money in your investment already.

Hi Lenn - In seedier parts of the country, I've seen vehicles slowly becoming part of the land :)

Not very often you can wear out the land, and homes normally cna be fixed unlike cars.

Lenn Harley wondering why I did not see on Feature Posts list!

This is so fundamental - and it's a great message for first time home buyers! They are always afraid if they will ever recover what they paid for their home.

location, location, location.  I always tell folks if you lifted our homes and moved them to say Chandler they would be 75k more. Home never changed, the land underneath it did.

Becasue there is only so much land to put real estate on.  They can make new automobiles by the millions each year.  It is considered a disposable item!!!

Jay.  The nearest 7-11.

Bruce.  When a vehicle reaches "antique" age and it's been preserved, they do have good value.  But, where are you going to get the leaded gasoline??

Kathy.  That finite age for vehicles is costly.

Dick.  Indeed.  So have I.  They even grow weeds.

William.  That's the story.

Carla.  Thanks.

Praful.  What's a feature???  I gave up on them long ago.

Tammy.  Absolutely.  That's the message.

Sham.  I saw where China is "building" more land.  I bet that costs a pretty penny.

They don't make more land, except in the Middle East.  Every year a few hundred thousand cars come off the assembly line

Gene.  I prefer new cars simply because of the maintenance required to keep a vehicle in good condition and last a long time.  It's not age.  It's condition.

Ed.  Indeed and sadly, they appear to have more and more defects.
