Tom, Often I see homeowner remodels and they make some mistakes that will be costly due to just not knowing. If nothing else they should consult a contractor or trades person. 

Love the counter-top, back-splash and farmhouse sink Tom.....great look.

Tom, DYI is great if they know what they are doing. We know that many do not. Many will "use" "leverage" the expertise of a general when they have them on-site doing other aspects of the project. 

I've always hired a general Tom Arstingstall, General Contractor, Dry Rot, Water Damage Sacramento, El Dorado County - (916) 765-5366 because I like having ONE person to go to if there is a problem.

The owner may be satisfied with their own handiwork, but when they sell, unprofessional work will reduce the property value significantly.

DIY will often times cost much more money.....consulting with a professional saves money, time and lots of stress!

Knowing the right sequence of events is the one thing most people get tripped up over with DIY projects. It causes all sorts of delays and needing to redo things 2 or three times.

Tom, looks like a great kitchen!  I agree, many times it's best to leave the work to the experienced contractor and then just enjoy the results!

Tom, I'm sure many homeowners believe they can do the job on their own, not realizing all of what is involved.

Hello Tom,  Congratulations on your featured post.  I'm sure there are many homeowners that get in over their head and wish they would have hired a contractor.  Nice job on this project.

I'm going to come at this from a different perspective. The licenced contractor/ subcontractor should know the proper installation of the goods or product but...I have seen homeowners acting as the general over ride and want a product installed to his specs thus a voidable install per manufacturer  guidelines.  The sub MUST get the direction in writing and note the manufacturer warrenty will be void. Without this addendum, the licence contractor is on the hook to make it right regardless of what the homeowner general directed or instructed.

Good morning Tom.  Couldn't agree more the only issue is finding those "good" contractors.  they are getting harder and harder to find....

I think that most important part is Knowledge of the sequence of events.

On some repairs....I get it done, but doing it right? We all can do but will it hold?
