No Sun In My Coffee Today

Musings for Wednesday, 8/19/2015

There's no sun in my coffee today. The skies are cloudy. It's a cool 81 degrees this morning in Flower Mound, Texas. It feels like 90. They predict thunderstorms today and I believe them. Can I go through one day without the sun? I think I can.

In between business, I stopped at Port & Manor in Dallas the other day. You can visit them at www.portandmanor.com. It's a different kind of store where inspiration can be found in every nook and cranny. What I liked best about it was their belief system in sustainability. They proclaim, "The Sustainability of our furniture is our top priority That's why we planted over 700,000 trees since 2005."  Port & Manor is a good place to go to drift away for just a little while. This pair of driftwood fish caught my eye. I was thinking about drifting down the Saco River in Maine where I enjoyed it so much every year I was there. I collected lots of driftwood. I never imagined you could make fish with driftwood. Did you? I own this pair now. They are a good companion for days like today when there's no sun in my coffee.

Oh there's something romantic about objects made of wood that comes from trees planted in the forest. To think everyone and everything has the potential to create art - isn't that amazing! How does one create something of value? All it takes is inspiration and a little patience. There's no sun in my coffee today; that's okay, the sun will come out tomorrow and tomorrow is another day!

I only wish I was as creative and talented as someone who can take driftwood and make art from it! I am truly jealous of those with artistic abilities.

Patricia, though I am not creative at all, I much appreciate those who have the talent and much rather have pieces that are handmade with love.
It's been raining in my area every day for the past couple of weeks but luckily, they don't last long.

I am always amazed when I see this kind of creativity, left up to me, it would look like a bunch of sticks just stacked up. Wonderful post, as usual.

Nicole Doty - Gilbert Real Estate Expert - I'm like you in that I have a great appreciation for the arts. I may not be able to create a fish out of driftwood but I've picked up a collection along the riverbeds in Maine. There really is inspiration in everything we have here on earth. I'm like you in that I can't make things with my hands, but we can both create sentences into blog posts that people appreciate. That in itself is a gift that we share.

My husband would call those a "knick knack".  What's great about some knick knacks are the memories associated with them and how they can bring a smile to your face just looking at them.  Those are the best kind!

George Souto - and you will make he best of it, just as I am! The sun has come out - no rain yet. I'm not sure if it's already headed your way or playing peak-a- poo behind the clouds. Whatever will be will be and that's okay with me!

Hi Martina Boeger - I think you're right on target about knick knacks. When it stirs up fond memories it seems to mean more. Suddenly, it's no longer just a thing or a dust collector but an object for creativity, some type of emotion that doesn't let go. I really appreciate your comments!

We're not used to so much sun here in the Pacific NW.  And we've had the longest, hottest summer I can remember.  A little over cast would seen nice right about now.  But, we're heading in to Fall, so there will be plenty of that soon enough.  I like the fish scupltures.

What lovely driftwood fish - they look like they are kissing!! Oh, I met two women in Saks today from Dallas and they were actually looking at fur coats for the Dallas winter!!! Does it ever get cold enough for fur?
