As most of us know, January is National radon awareness month. Although smoking is the most common cause of lung cancer in adults, exposure to elevated levels of radon is the most common cause of this disease in people who do not smoke tobacco products. Folks who do smoke exacerbate the situation and their risk is even greater. There are no known safe levels of radon. If readings of 4 picocuries per liter of air is detected it is highly recommended that your home be remediated.

Michael, for years I have recommended buyers do a radon test if the home has not been mitigated. Most homes in Denver have a low reading, but have seen up to 27 or 29.

My daughter and I attended state level environmental classes about radon and the effects on health. It gave a history of how the testing all came about and was quite enlightening. My daughter is an environmental scientist and and knowing is part of her business. It actually made me a lot less afraid of it.
