How Windy Was It?

Blowing windSandersVThe last couple of days have been very windy. Substained winds of 40 Mhp and gusts up to 60 Mph.

Living in the Great Plains you get used to the wind blowing but winds and gusts like this are unusual even for us.

Anyhow, it was so windy that the Colonel lost his face (completely on one side of this sign and half of it on the other side). This sign is on North hill just two doors from my office.

My antennaThis TV antenna however is/was on my roof. The mast bent 90 degrees from the wind and once I climbed up on the roof I discovered the antenna was also damaged. Bummer for me I had just replaced the antenna last fall. Last night when I could only receive one or two channels I assumed the stations antenna went down. Nope, it was just mine.

Now THAT is wind. I just saw this morning news video of a tractor trailer truck just toppling right over. Yikes.

Jim Cheney it was non-stop for two days. Today it seems to be calm.

I agree Myrl Jeffcoat , especially with grey skies.

It probably is pretty foolish of me James Dray , I'm not a boy anymore either and going up there in the winter with snow boots on and the wind still blowing isn't the brightest idea I've had lately.

I love it when I experience windy weather. Must be from my love of sailing? Time for a serious antenna mast!

I did see on the news last night that there was a lot of wind damage to signs and more Nina Hollander .

Kat Palmiotti I did see on the news and today's paper that there were actually sever semitrucks toppled by the wind. The more experienced truckers usually know better especially if they have empty trailers.

Amen on that mast idea Sandy Padula and Norm Padula, JD, GRI NMLS#1483386 . I was up there last night with a cordless saws-all cutting off the damaged portion. It's been years since I've gone sailing but I'm hoping that when I visit my friend Marco Giancola he will have a sailboat we can take out.

We had that yesterday in Oklahoma City and it blew down trees and overturned semis. The worst part is we had wildfires and wind like that can make it devastating.

WOW, a wind like that and a fire to fan would be very scary Joe Pryor . I hope all is OK with you.

It has been extremely windy out here this past week too but today we are in for 70 degrees and sunshine - finally.  There's hope.  Poor Colonel!

70 sounds like heaven to me Belinda Spillman , I hope those temps get to us soon but the report I just heard has us in the single digits for the next few days.

I lost several dead trees that would have stayed standing for a couple of years yet.

Yup, believe it or not Tammy Lankford, I still use a big on the roof antenna. When I cut off the bad part of the mast I was surprised at the quality of the pipe and that it could have bent over like that.

I didn't loose any trees (dead or alive) William Feela but a lot of twigs and small branches sure came down.

Wow, that was certainly a strong blow!  If we ever get a storm like that, many big trees will go down.  John and Kat

John and Kat Alexander- Slocum if we had leaves on those trees I'm sure we would have had many down as well.
