Minot, RealtorReal estate licenses are issued by the State of North Dakota.

Those wishing to sell Real Estate in ND must submit to a thorough background check that includes fingerprints and an extensive credit check. (the objective here is that if you can not handle your own finances you should not be handling others, especially on the biggest purchase of their lives)

Examples of those who may be denied: Recent bankruptcies, those with a lean against them for not paying rent or automotive payments, leans for credit card debt, medical debt, and more.

Anyone who would like to have a license MUST complete a course that is approved by the State of North Dakota. These courses range from 30 to 90 hours depending upon the State approved course/school.

Upon completion of the school's course exam the potential licensee must pass the State exam as well as a National exam.

Those who have successfully passed the exams can expect the following (approximate) cash expenditures:

Pre-licensing, fees to the ND Real estate Commission $120.00

Real Estate course $410.00 To $750.00

Errors and Omissions Insurance approximately $400.00

Minot MLS fees $704.00

Total cost just to get out of the gate (bear essentials) approximately $2,000.00

It is a big investment and not something to be taken lightly.  We go through a lot to wear the Realtor badge of honor.

Indeed. We don't just get up in the morning and decide to sell real estate. It's a huge investment. Not to mention that we don't get paid until we consummate a deal. It is not for everyone.

I like that your state requires a credit check.  I don't think CA Sales Associates have to get one, but I think they should!  I think CA could do a lot more to weed out people who are interested but have not shown the level professionalism and/or competence customers should expect.

I agree Belinda Spillman and I believe the majority of the public is unaware of what we go through just to get a license. It's after that that the REAL education begins.

Jane Peters it is a big investment in time and money and most potential agents who come to me can't afford all that money up front.

I would have at least two new agents just this year alone if it were not for the credit check Jim Cheney . One for hospital bills and the other a dispute with a car dealer over a vehicle he returned.

MN is usually very stringent on rules, I'm surprised their Real Estate  licensing rules are lacking William Feela .

Interesting that licensees have t go through a credit check. In Tennessee, that has not happened yet.

From the responses I'm getting Debbie Reynolds it seems we may be unique.

We do not have credit check as well.

Getting a RE license is still quite easy, but it is not cheap.

I wouldn't mind if it were a bit more difficult to obtain a license but I am starting to question the credit check in North Dakota Inna Ivchenko being once you get your license they don't seem to care if you go through a bankruptcy.
