Having Trouble Losing Weight All of a Sudden?

By
Real Estate Agent with Elizabeth Anne Weintraub, Broker DRE #00697006

Have you noticed that as you get older, it becomes increasingly difficult to keep your weight at a normal level? Even when you decide like this Sacramento Realtor, OK,  I do not need to weigh 98 pounds to look all right. I can put on a few pounds and be fine with a bit of padding. I can look like a normal person. But then the scale seems to creep up, even though you're just as active as you ever were, which is to say not much.

The other problem is aging means your muscles start to crumble, decay and turn into mush. You didn't have to do anything, really, to stay in great shape when you were younger. But now that age is creeping in, watch out. Well, you can read more about this in my personal blog today at this link: Crucial Tips for Women Losing Weight Over 50.

Good morning Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents, your post is spot on with a lot of humor. Great read. I always had a challenge with gaining weight and not able to lose it but it is 1000x harder now. I have to exercise a lot more so I could eat what I really like and have some wine. My Fitbit is sitting on my desk, I haven't even tried it yet and bought it months ago.

Beth Atalay You'll be happier if you don't wear it, LOL. At least I've gotten my husband to compromise on dim sum. We walk to the restaurant and back, so that's about 10,000 steps in itself. I can do that once a month. It's better than nothing at all, right?

I like that idea Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents, sneak those steps in. I do squats when I'm in the kitchen or doing laundry, makes me feel better.

Elizabeth, hitting mid-life sure made a difference, and until last year, could not lose a pound, no matter what I tried.    Now, if I don't move enough, the scale creeps up again.   Need lots of walking!   It is good you can walk to get dinner!

Probably the only part of growing older I haven't experienced. My anxiety levels are so high that my metabolism burns off calories before they can turn into anything. I've always been that way. I know, no sympathy for me.

I do have all the aches and pains of growing older and not loving any of that.

Hey this is an issue for us older guys too. I keep ramping up the excerise, increasing my water intake, and cutting out a lot of protein I use to eat.

Are you just now noticing that, Elizabeth?  If so, I'd say you have been riding fee for awhile!

I can remember losing weight after my kids were born was a piece of cake.  But, now those pounds hang on like lock-jawed terriers.

Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents - There's a conspiracy targeting us who don't like to cook: restaurants sneak extra calories into their food to make it taste so good! And they drag out the serving of the food so you need to order another glass of wine. Then they virtually ram that desert menu down your throat and you must be polite and have one of those scrumptuous items.

The RIGHT CHARLOTTE REALTOR!

At 6'1" you can imagine that if I weighed 98#, you wouldn't be able to see me! LOL

But, I'm with you, Elizabeth, our bodies do need different nutrients, exercise and even more sleep than our younger bodies did. I hate it because for 40+ years, I was so spoiled by eating what I wanted, exercising when I felt like it and sleeping 3 hours a night! Over 50? Not so much!

Hi Elizabeth.... being well, well over the age of 50 I know all about staying in shape and keeping my weight under control. I stopped worrying about the actual pounds on the scale and know when I need to "do something" if my clothes get too tight. The trick I've learned is not to let it get out of hand for too long.
