Privacy Notices or Spam? Well I am sure you will agree with me...

By
Real Estate Agent with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties 01238708

Ok, let’s be honest are you getting a flow of “Privacy Notices”? Well it is not just you, we are all getting them. So here is the short and sweet version of it, we are all getting a flood of emails and everyone is asking us to update and consent or should I say opt-in to the various forms of data collect. This of course is because of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) that has been affecting all the European Union members.

www.endrebarath.com

Let’s be realistic how many of you read and responded or followed the steps from the various platforms??  I have been busy deleting and doing nothing but deleting this mass “attack” of my   email box.   No, I have not been reading them, life is too short for all this. After all they have taken over in volume compared to the number of spam emails I have been receiving, hence I treat them just like my spam Emails… delete… delete.

Honestly my take is that  all this is nothing more than a CYA document for all the Internet practitioners to comply with a Mandate that only effects European Union Members.

So, what is this about? Well the short answer is, that It is about Internet Privacy. Please allow me to be sarcastic and compare it to when someone left the gates open in a ranch and all the horses and cows ran out. That is what has happened to your privacy, all the big boys FB, Google, Chrome, Amazon and the list goes on and on have been robbing us of our privacy. I have not even addressed the Government Agencies. Anyway, add it up, over the past ten years we have given up our privacy for the privilege of having “free Internet” sort of reminds me of this weekend. Nothing is Free!! But I am digressing…

www.endrebarath.com

So, if you think you will have your privacy regained, you are being totally unrealistic or a dreamer. When your most trusted platform your Credit Bureau aka Equifax was hacked, when LinkedIn, when Home Depot, and the list goes on and on were hacked. When the word came out that the CIA and the FBI had all your information compiled, what makes you think that by signing these various forms your privacy will be protected?

As far as I am concerned your only opportunity is to accept what has happened and move on with your life. If you think I am wrong please share it here in your comments, just as if you agree with me😊!

BTW in the big picture I do not care, I have nothing to hide and as I mentioned to others if everyone knows when my Birthday is and everyone knows what Holidays I celebrate please feel free to send me “gifts” and I will be appreciative and will consider it as a “quid pro quo” for my privacy😊!!!!

BTW if you are interested the Equifax Breach effected 140+million people and the Facebook disregard has affected multi millions of people so it is too late to close the gates.

Now if it comes to selling your home let’s be real you do not want to keep it a secret, you want everyone to know what it looks like and how much it is for sale. Hence I will spread the word out all over the World Wide Web once we agree on the price and terms.

Wonderful points, Endre, and I'm in total agreement...

1. No, I have not been reading them, life is too short for all this. After all they have taken over in volume compared to the number of spam emails I have been receiving, hence I treat them just like my spam Emails… delete… delete.

2. So, if you think you will have your privacy regained, you are being totally unrealistic or a dreamer.

3. As far as I am concerned your only opportunity is to accept what has happened and move on with your life.

Good morning Endre.  I think that this is a move in the right direction.  There are some very dire implications if we give away to many privacy rights.

Hello Endre --- the delete key has been more of an acquaintance for me as of late. I may be incorrect(it's been known to happen) but this is mildly familiar/ similar to the "warnings" of Y2K although I am sure no one would fall for something like that again(now I will return to listening to War of The World).  Oops...look it up, kids.

Endre- oh yes... every app I open seems to have me saying "Yes I understand" and yada yada. I have nothing to hide and what I have is a pittance compared to the big boys.

WAIT! You mean I can't get back to FULL privacy, Endre?!

You're so right, that horse is out of the barn, never to return. The internet is forever- what don't these people understand about that?!

As for the massive increase in emails? Well, my delete button is worn out!

Scary, Endre, how much comes through our emails and how much I daily delete - lots and lots. I am also perplexed how we are abused with salacious emails.  I strongly feel I have a right to my freedom as much as you have; however, in our freedom rights, there is a line we can cross.  I shall not, in my freedom rights, abuse you;  nor should you, in your freedom rights, abuse me.

I keep getting messages asking me to click to stay on the list. Nope. Not happening.

Meanwhile, I get all sorts of "News" emails that are really annoying. Some of the article titles sound interesting, but if you go there, the article is about something else entirely. I can't find an opt out link so just keep marking them as junk and deleting.

Endre, I agree with you. I delete all this type email.

Actually, I am opening fewer emails all the time. Yes it is about time.

It seems we only get concerned with things when the horse is out of the pen.

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one deleting this baloney.  The whole thing is spiraling out of hand.  There is absolutely NO sure way to keep your profile and passwords, etc. secret or confidential at this point.  I suggest we throw away electronic media and go back to one on one communications: knock on doors, send handwritten letters, make some phone calls. Face to face.

Endre

Privacy is definitely a myth these days. It seems that no matter what is done, someone can circumvent it. I have a friend who discovered recently that someone hacked into his bank account - no idea how - got checks printed up with the hacker's name, and my friend's, and started trying to cash them. We hear stories all the time about accounts being compromised, the dangers of traveling with your phone overseas, and so much more.

Maybe companies "protect" our privacy by not deliberately sharing information, but true privacy does not exist.
