The Seasons of Sedona
Anyone who follows me, knows that I love our weather. In Sedona, we get real change in the seasons. As much as I love seasonal changes, I am still a lightweight when it comes to cold weather. This is probably why I enjoy this time of year so much. Our seasons are mild and our humidity is low. It is humid air that makes warm air feel stiffling and it is moisture in the cold air that brings a chill to the bones. We get neither of those conditions which makes me extremely grateful. Below you will find reasons why I love each season.
Fall
My favorite time of year is fall. The season of fall starts around late August with crisp mornings. You can feel the hint that fall is coming. Because our temps do drop within the spectrum where leaves can produce that autumn color, we can experience the beauty of this season.
Winter
This season brings the purity of the ocassional snow with a backdrop of red rock and green pine trees. Since 2010, snowfall each year ranges fro 4.25 inches to a high of 20.6. - We have had only 3 months in the last 105 months with a total of over 8 inches. Something that most areas do not experience is the fact that the snow tends to evaporate in a short time. There have been only 2 days (2011, 2012) where the daytime temps have been below 32º for a high. This means that ice rarely forms as the day moves forward. The sun is out most of the time which melts and evaporates snow quickly.
Spring
Sedona spring is the longest season. In most areas spring starts in late March. In January, this year, Sedona had 24 days in the 60ºs and 1 day in the 70ºs. It could be argued that our spring started in January this year.
Summer
Summer brings monsoon usually in July. The clouds and storms are so dramatic and the much needed rain delights Arizona residents. In Sedona, the clouds and rain take away the potential for hot, hot days. For most areas in the country, August has the hottest days. In Sedona our hottest days come in June and early July. Last year there were no days over 100º in August.
I couldn't ask for anything more in our seasons. They are all relatively mild in comparison to extremes in other areas. I get to experience the changes without having to leave my home. We even had a White Christmas in 2016. I am grateful for this first time!
