The Canals of Cocoa Beach

Cocoa Beach is a barrier island in East Central Florida that is well known for its waterfront property. With six miles of beaches to the east and river front to the west, it is uniquely located.

Cocoa Beach was founded in the 1920’s as an isolated beach community. Later it became home to the space program, astronauts and rocket launches. Since then, Cocoa Beach has become a bit of a melting pot where local residents and retirees, retail stores, restaurants and tourists all co-exist.

Cocoa Beach is home for 12,000+/- locals. It is a popular vacation destination, a relaxing day at the beach for mainlanders, a great surfing location and a favorite “home away from home” for our snowbirds.

We enjoy sub-tropical weather with average lows around 50* in what passes for our winter and highs in the summer around 90* with a light sea breeze most days.

You can be as active as you want or relax as much as you like. Our fabulous weather means we can enjoy the beaches year around as well as golf, tennis, biking, boating, kayaking, swimming, surfing, SUP and fishing.

Cocoa Beach Country Club is open to the public and offers a 27-hole municipal golf course on the Banana River, a 50-meter public swimming pool and tennis complex.

Cocoa Beach has 3 oceanfront parks with restrooms, showers and picnic tables and a state of the art skate park. Tours of the Banana River Lagoon are available by boat or kayak to see marine life and wildlife in their natural habitat. Exploring the 1,000 Islands is a favorite activity for kayakers.

There are a variety of restaurants and types of cuisine available for dining out in the Cocoa Beach area. The Art Festival during Thanksgiving weekend is a special treat.

Cocoa Beach is known for its waterfront property and you can choose your view…

The Atlantic Ocean to the east offers gorgeous sunrises, surfing and beach access while the Banana River on the west is the place for boating, kayaking, SUP and breathtaking sunsets.

But it is the canals of Cocoa Beach and their tranquil, relaxed atmosphere that are its best kept secret.

Visualize yourself relaxing on your screened porch or balcony while you watch the birds perch on the dock pilings as they enjoy the sunshine…you will see pelicans, sea gulls and blue heron.

Many of the homes and condos have private docks and it is always relaxing to enjoy the view of the water and the different boats docked on the canals.

Since the canals are on the river side of Cocoa Beach, you can see breathtaking sunsets daily. It’s a great way to unwind and a perfect ending to another beautiful day on Cocoa Beach.

Cocoa Beach has over 2,400 single family homes and over 5,500 condominium units with some serving as second homes for seasonal residents and some as rental properties. Oceanfront property is always in high demand, whether condos or single family homes, but many people prefer to be on the river or canals. Sunrise or sunset, you can choose your view here!

Whether you prefer a house or condo, consider the canals of Cocoa Beach for your next home or home away from home...you'll be glad you did!

Had a great time there last fall and next time the boat will be coming with us or meeting us there. So much to do, so little time.

Diana, The Canals look like a nice place to go home.  I stopped by the area many years ago for a lunch on the beach after a downpour chased me away from Cape Canaveral.  Bill

Great pictures, Diana.  And that overhead view gives a clear view of how the canals are laid out.

Thanks, Jeff...we love it here. Here's a little trivia...the show was not filmed here (except for exteriors). The majority of it was done in Cali. Diana

What kind and size of boat, Kevin? I'm a former powerboater. The Superboats will be arriving soon for the power boat races later this month, always a great show if you can find time for a quick trip . Diana

Diana, I love everything on the water and we expect to be sailing into Cocoa on a 43 footer. It draws about 5' so any local input you have could be helpful. We won't make the races this year but it's good to know. Go Miss GEICO

Kevin, It depends on where you want to be when you arrive. If you want to be near Cocoa, that is on the mainland on the Indian River which is deep and a popular place for sailboats to anchor out. If you are sailing the ocean to Cocoa Beach, the best place would be the Barge Canal or Port Canaveral. Let me know which location you want, arrival date and length of stay and I'll do some checking for you. You would love the races, too bad you have to miss them!
