Moon Valley in North Phoenix is a family orientated community surrounded by 3 mountains and backs to the North Mountain Preserve. The North Mountain Community Center has become a well known center for socializing, learning all kind of interesting things as well as a starting point to hike or bike the mountain trails. My husband and I have lived in Moon Valley for well over 20 years and we love to hike in the preserve. We also enjoy volunteering at the North Mountain Visitor Center! There is so much going on at the Center and although summer is quieter due to the heat, there is still A LOT going on for families to enjoy!

What's Going on at the Center August 2019
3 Saturdays a month (1st, 3rd and 5th) there is a 'Coffee House' 9 to 11 am which brings in lots of folks who love listening to music, meeting friends and enjoying a coffee and donut or two! This event is free and open to all who'd like to attend.I will be working at the front reception desk on Saturday August 3rd so stop in and say hi and check out the center! I'd love to show you around!
If you like to Hike there is an out of town hike during the summer months (somewhere cooler) and hosted by Dave. There are typically quite a few folks that meet at the center and car pool to wherever their destination is that day. It's a day long event and they all stop for lunch along the way. You can sign up at the center or call for more information.
We have a Resident Silver Smith, Doug Duffy. Doug teaches all levels of jewelry making and his classes are always fun, lively and full. Be sure to sign up to hold a spot for you.
And for your Fur Babies that need some training our Resident Dog Trainer, Leslie Spencer- Snider is the best trainer I've ever known. Check out the schedule above to see what classes and hours Leslie is teaching this August. P.S. Our little guy Barney now follows many of the tips and tricks that Leslie teaches....and he's turned into a mellow dog (well mostly) LOL.
Wilderness /First Aid Training is being held August 24th and 25th from 8:00am to 5:00pm. Accidents happen. People get hurt, sick, or lost. Would you know what to do? By learning a few basic skills, you can make the difference between a good outcome and a bad one -- and maybe even save a life. See the calender of events for more information.
My favorite is the Guppy Reading Library for all the little kids. It's fun to watch the kids learn to read, present their 'book report' to one of the volunteers and THEN....they get to pick out a ROCK. Every time they come back to read they can earn another Rock. The kids love earning their rocks.
Another one of my favorites is our Resident Rattlesnake Doc, Mark Hindle. If you haven't experienced his class you're in for a Hissing Treat!! He won't be teaching in August but I'm sure he'll be back in the fall. This is a MUST DO event for anyone living in desert areas. Check back later in the fall on the calender of events. Rattlesnake Garage
These are just a few of the events going on at the North Mountain Visitor Center. And there is so much MUCH more going on all year long!! Stop on by on weekdays or weekends and be prepared to learn lots of new stuff! You'll want to keep coming back again and again! Guranteed! Tell them 'Anna Banana' sent you to the North Mountain Visitor Center!
