World Smile Day is October 2...Share Yours with Someone Else
For some reason, the first thing I think of when someone says smiley face is Tom Hanks in Forrest Gump. How appropriate for World Smile Day.
Did you just smile???
Smiles are amazing things. In fact, they are healthy for us because the act of smiling releases dopamine, endorphins, and serotonin which are associated with our feeling good! And your smile can help lower your blood pressure and heart rate!
Have you ever passed or been approached by someone with a frown or scowl on their face? You may not exactly want to say hello to them for fear you may be intruding.
Or you may not want to have them snap at you.
But you never know. A smile can be the best gift you can offer someone. You may not have it returned but you won’t know until you try.
The smile you offer may be the thing they need most at this time. Perhaps it’s someone new to the area, or a person who has lost their way in life. A person may be shy and would like to smile and say hello but doesn’t know how to start.
Let my soul smile through my heart and my heart smile through my eyes, that I may scatter rich smiles in sad hearts. Paramahansa Yogananda
Masks on...we can still smile…
With masks on when we’re out, we can still smile even though the recipient may only be able to see a third of our face. When you smile, it will show in your eyes. It shows in your very demeanor.
How to observe this day?
Simple...share your smile with those you see, whether or not you know them. If it is returned, great. And if not, don’t give up. You never know!
What sunshine is to flowers, smiles are to humanity. These are but trifles, to be sure; but scattered along life's pathway, the good they do is inconceivable. Joseph Addison
