Shake & Bake in Los Angeles, CA! No it is not a recipe...

Shake and Bake, OK it is not a recipe from the Gourmet Realtor in Los Angeles…rather it is about another earthquake in Los Angeles!!!

www.endrebarath.com

Last night, we were having dinner at home and low and behold there was a Shaker… It got the attention not only of me and Diane, but two out of the four of our animals. The time was around 7:58 pm, in case you are wondering, this is usually when we are in the beginning or middle of our evening meal, depending on how the animal feeding goes.

This was a good one, ten miles from our home in Carson, CA the Google App reported that it was a 4.7 shaker. I said to Diane, don’t worry, they usually downgrade it after a few hours. Sure, enough it was downgraded to a 4.5 shaker.

Gratefully we were far enough away that all it did was make my  CD player shake and skip and scratch one of my CD’s.

We continued enjoying our meal and I reminded her of the day we arrived in Los Angeles there was a 3.2 and it got her attention… now here we are a 4.5 far enough away just makes us want to focus on getting our Earthquake Kit updated.

Just to be clear not only did we not update it, but I also even failed to blog about it last night. Clearly, we are getting complacent. Here in Los Angeles, those of us who have been here a while always consider October as “Shake & Bake October” the temperatures rise and so do the frequency of earthquakes. Now with that said I was wondering it was only September 17th, 2021…Hmmm…. what does this mean?

www.endrebarath.com

Now with that said here are seven steps that might be beneficial when the next earthquake  occurs:

https://www.earthquakecountry.org/sevensteps/

As far as I am concerned number TWO is the most important one. Here is the link if you do not want to read the rest

https://www.earthquakecountry.org/step2/

As you can imagine there are other things we focus on, because that is how life is. For example, today I spilled a glass of Bordeaux while I was cooking,  and we had  a bigger focus not only on the cleanup but on the inconvenience. Now gratefully  yesterday nothing happened. So, putting things in perspective we were worked up about the small problem and ignored the bigger problem: Spending time to update our emergency evacuation plan.

I am confident we were not the only ones in Los Angeles that had misplaced priorities. Yes, hopefully there is always tomorrow.

Wishing you a safe and healthy life and I look forward to your comments. Good evening Endre,  after being born and raised in So Cal I know how unsettling an earthquake can be.  When the very ground you look to for stability is rolling it is a very surreal feeling.  And not a pleasent on.  Glad all is well.  Mark

Morning Endre.

I've only experienced one, it was about 70 miles away and it was nothing to write about.  I can't imagine have one that large and so close.

Earthquakes are so random. At least with Tornadoes you have a good idea somethings coming. Earthquakes happen out of the blue. Good Weather Bad Weather They just happen. I was born and raised in Kansas It took a little getting used to the Earthquakes and the Volcanoes in Alaska. I am glad you and yours are fine!

Hello Endre - I don't recall the "shake-and-bake" reference to October but I do know that the weather in any month in SoCal can lead to all kinds of conversation.  It might not have been a "big one" the other night but it was definitely noticeable and you're right proper preparation for any sort of emergency is important.  Such events serve as reminders - will enough take notice?

Good morning, Endre... glad to hear all is well at your end, on the whole. I remember the first time I felt the earth shake after I moved to San Francisco in 1974. I was living on the 14th floor... a very odd feeling and certainly not something I'd ever experienced in New York City or Washington, DC. It took a lot of willpower not to make the first reservation on a plan to return to NYC.

I don't think I have ever experienced an earthquake.  At what level does it cause serious damage where it occurs?  Will 3.2 cause serious damage?

Good morning Endre. What you now take for granted would have shook me up and had me concerned. Update your earthquake kit! Enjoy your day with no shaking.

Endre, Born in California and lived here my entire life ... looong time 😮 I do not think about earthquakes at all.  When they happen, I most always feel the shake, rattle, and/or roll.

There is no way to prepare for the BIG ONE.

Wow Endre that is a bit of a wake up and get prepared, once again warning.  I'll take a look at what's needed in your link.  I have no idea as we don't have them here in AZ.  Way back in 89 (I think) 2 folks walked into an open house I was holding up in Flagstaff. They wanted out of San Fransico.  That earthquake scared the hell out of them and they almost didn't make it out.  They became life long friends and clients. So good things can come out of an earthquake....people do have a tendency to go on and on about the small things....but most of it isnt important, is it.

Hi Endre Barath, Jr., when visiting my son in Las Vegas, there was a 7.0 earthquake and we were dining at one of the restaurants on the strip. It was pretty scary for me. I don't think any of us can be totally prepared for these types of disasters.
