Motivational Monday… Show Up
This weekend was excruciating for me as I watched my Houston Cougars lose to Villanova. It’s not so much that they were outscored. No, my issue was that they never appeared to be “in” the game until perhaps the very end.
Vegas had them going all the way…the analysts had all good things to say about how well they played. They were expected to win that game.
All of this makes me think about the times when we go in thinking we’ve got this in the bag. It may be a listing appointment or a presentation to a potential buyer of your services.
It may be your bowling team where you are the returning champs in your league.
Showing up is more than physically being there. It’s important that your mindset is ready as well. The fact that you may be the apparent winner has more of an impact on your competition…their mindset.
The true winner enters each meeting with fresh eyes. They bring with them their tools to win…whether it’s years of practice on the court…years of training…more experience than anyone else…and more knowledge than their competitor.
However, that’s not enough. The winner knows that each meeting will be an opportunity to win or to lose. They must be in the present…not thinking about the last game or the games to come.
Ready to head out for your winning week???
