Jeff Dowler, CRS has challenged us to share our tips for blogging as well as what you shouldn't do when blogging. Some of the don'ts turn your readers off, and they won't return, and some could get you into legal problems.
There are lots of ideas for blogging with success and what to write about, but now for the tips on what you shouldn't do when blogging.
- Be sure to leave "white space" between your sentences. It is hard to read "a wall of words" without spacing, or photos. Be sure you aren't writing in a tiny font, this is tough to read.
- Be sure to add spacing so your words don't run into the photos. You can do this in the photo editor under the Advanced tab with horizontal and vertical space. I usually use 25 for both.
- Be sure to read and re-read your post for spelling or grammatical errors. We all do this on occasion, but when it is every post, you may have lost readers. Use Grammarly, it is FREE, and watches your back!
- Try not to sound like you are the "end all". Many posts have --- #1 REALTOR in _____, and say, I am the BEST at ______________. If you truly are the best, your readers will figure it out, and you don't HAVE to write about it.
- Don't talk about a current transaction's issues. You never know when the other agent is reading your posts. If your posts are public, everyone can find them! If you need to rant - call a friend.
- Don't copy and paste photos from around the Internet! This is a copyright infringement issue, and could cost thousands! This is a BIG DON'T! Even copying someone else's blog and posting it as yours could get you in hot water!
Blogging can be fun, especially when other Rainers comment on your posts!
