Dear Sir/Madam

RE: PAYMENT NOTIFICATION ON APPROVED ENTITLEMENT FUND
(US$30,000,000.00)

This is to notify you that your over due entitlement fund has been gazetted to be released to you after the summit meeting held at the Federal Government capital territory (Abuja) in which an indoor meeting was held between my government,International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Bank Auditors, representatives of the European Union, Asian and American Congress respectively concerning the debts owed to foreigners.

It was agreed that all the beneficiaries under the category "A" will receive the sum of Thirty MillionUnited States Dollars  $30,000,000.00) as approved and endorsed by all the parties present in the summit.

Be informed that your name was stipulated under the category "A" awaiting the receipt of his payment.

Therefore, you are advised as a matter of urgency, to reconfirm the following details:

YOUR FULL NAMES:...................
CORRESPONDING ADDRESS:..............
TELEPHONE / FAX NAUMBERS:............
MOBILE PHONE:.................
OCCUPATION/POSITION:.................
AGE/MARITAL STATUS................
SEX..............

Note that if you have received this message by(electronic email sending error) to your system, kindly help us by informing us to enable us sort this out as my office has been instructed by the newly inugurated Presidency to take the issues of the release of all payment owed to foreign beneficiaries upon myself in order to sanitize the good image of this country and this government will not want to leave without the settlement of all debts as agreed / endorsed by the parties involved.

It will interest you to know that as soon as we receive the above details,we will commence with all needed necessary legal procedures and issue all payments details to you,in order to approve the release of your long over due entitlement fund,as our government wants to rebuild confidence in International Cooperation and InternationalFinancial system.

I want you to understand that this arrangement supersedesall the previous arrangements given to you.

Nevertheless,if we do not hear from you within the next seven (7) working days from today, it shall attract indefinite postponement of your payment and my government will not be blamed for such action, any question should be directed to this office.

The federal government of Nigeria is sorry for any inconvenience the delay in releasing yourentitlement fund must have caused you as a result of unprofessional services rendered by the banking and financial institutes and that is our aim of objective.

Finally, chanell your urgent reply only to my privae email address :
senatordavidmark2@sunumail.sn

Best Regards,
Senator David Mark
(FEDEREL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA)

Now my questions are, with all the spelling error, do they REALLY expect many people to respond to this?  I copied and pasted as-is with errors and everything.  And if this was not enough to give away that fact that it was junk spam mail, I received it 11 times in a row at the same time.  So what already sticks out like a sore thumb, it is like hiting it again with a sledge hammer!  Do they then think ANYONE will reply to this?  I can't imagine how anyone would.

Unfortunately it does work. It works usually on older folks who have decided it is finally time they get on line. And wham ther it is. Remember these folks were brought up on the printed word and beleive what they read.

Microsoft Outlook seems to work best at filtering this type of stuff out.  And if it doesn't, I hit the "Junk" button, and there it goes (with another complaint against their IP address!)

When you send out 30 million copies of an email, you are bound to hit a few suckers, and I am sure they do!  There are new people on the Internet every day and unfortunately the late adopters tend to be the elderly that are more vulnerable.

Ronald, I am so sick and tired of these. I get on average about 3 a day. One of the major news programs did a piece on these about a year ago and they followed through with it all the way to some place like Nigeria at a cafe. It is ridiculous that anyone could possibly think they could get away with this.....and the fact that folks are gullible enough to fall for it, is actaully sad.

Debbie, I certainly do as well.  I get about 150 junk emails a day, if not more.  But like I said, it is pretty easy to spot the junk mails, but if that wasn't enough, 11 times at the same time?  How could ANYONE not realize it was junk at that point - no matter how computer illiterate!  Charlie, I think if you get one email, and have no idea, I can barely see that, but 11 in a row makes it more than obvious I would think!!  Penny, I do as well, many times over a day!   Steve, Laura, & Mike, I agree most of the time, but I think even the 'newbies' would realize this when they get 11 in a row, they would probably wonder what in the world!!  Bo, THREE A DAY??? I wish, I get so many, as I said above, probably around 150 junk mails a day from these kinds - not to mention other junk mails from companies I know!!  Tom, I certainly agree!  Charles, woo hoo, we are rich!!  :-)    I wish.  Pam, and everyone else, thanks for stopping by & commenting!

Robert, no apology necessary!  I would think if they are trying to 'get' someone to give them money, they would at least have the sense to realize to try and make it seem legitimate, with all the spelling & grammatical errors, virtually nobody will be fooled.  Then to send it 11 times in a row, I don't see how ANYONE would fall for that!  Vickie, when they send that one message, I could see a very few (of course it only takes one) falling for it, but when combined with a multitude of them at the same time, even the less savvy people should catch it then!   Oh well, thanks for stopping by & commenting!
