Counting John McCain's Houses For Him

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Zillow

"How many houses do you and Mrs. McCain have?"

To an ordinary citizen, this would be a pretty easy question to answer.  But John McCain isn't an ordinary citizen.

Because he wasn't able to answer this question himself, our editorial content lead at Zillow did some sleuthing and came up with a definitive number for McCain the next time he is asked this question.

Find out what the number is and take a tour of the homes he owns on this great blog post found on the Zillow blog with all the juicy home details.

Thanks for doing the leg work Sara. But to me it makes the point the McCain is not an ordinary homeowner with 7 homes who wont even admit how many homes he has!

Is success a bad thing?  Who cares if McCain did not know the number of houses he owns - that is not his job.  Ask  Cindy she knows what homes they own.

Edie the point was that of course he knew how many houses he owns but didnt want to admit it being the fat cat politician that he is!

You dont think that if someone makes $50K they are middle class too do you? that was something else that McCain has been quoted as saying! Sorry If I remember correctly I think McCain said $5 million?!

I am going to come to McCain's defense a little here because, I don't know if you actually clicked over to read the post, but it is actually a complicated answer.  Some houses are owned by, some owned by his wife, some by LLCs- so what answer did the reporter want, how in-depth did he want him to get with his answer?    However, he could have responded better and stated his case more clearly.

thank you Sara for the clarification but the bottom line still is that he and his family owns 7 houses in this country correct?

Yes, in one way or another.  But I don't think the other side's candidate could be considered "middle class' by any means either- so the point would be moot if used to decide who to back (is that where you are going with this?).

Sara my point is that least Barack Obama is not hiding what he owns and is honest about how much money he has so to me McCain is being less than honest which to me is the point!

Both sides both democrat and republican have been campaigning for over 18 months and their real estate holdings, their taxes and their incomes are all fair game. If you want a president who is not going to be honest vote for McCain!

The fact that McCain is a real estate mogul and doesn't seem to know it isn't the issue. It really boils down to sounding out of touch.

In all fairness every one who runs for public office is going to make a gaff. It would be nice if we could cut both sides a little slack and focus on the real issues. unfortunately the media is insistent on turning politics into entertainment and the public is eating it with a spoon.

So, I am guessing if McCain becomes president, then he will definitely be pushing for a rebound in the real estate market?  Especially if he has homes for sale himself! LOL

It is great to be an American and to be in that position.  We could ask the same question of Howard Dean, the Rockefeller's, the Kennedy's and listen to the silence...

Nice stuff...I just hate the thought that by the time you're able to build that kind of lifestyle you can't remember where you put your toys!

Good for John McCain. I think after you look at how these properties are titled, you get a better idea of why he didn't answer the question directly.

Behind the scenes making people look great.

There is a chance he did not really know.  I'm sure he has people who are working the investment property side of his income and he may just be signing documents as needed.  Maybe they were in the middle of a couple of transactions, so technically he wasn't sure.  Either way, it's a very minor issue in my book.

I would suggest that John McCain should understand the real estate market somewhat. Nice to have a wealthy spouse as well.

Sara, I hope you didn't bring this up because you live in Chicago. You realize that this fact makes you suspect.

The tie-in with Zillow is cute however.
