Some people have a gift. They can't help it. Their thoughts are personal and they express them as if they're meant for you alone.
You don't know them, but for an instant you feel you do. Such is the experience of reading The Nie Nie Dialogues.
This is a blog my daughter would visit.
She said, "You know how most kids never wrote in their diary unless they were sent to their room... and then it's page-after-page of angry 'I hate my parents' or 'school is soooo boring' type entries? Well hers is different. It's optimistic and full of beautiful words and pictures."
Nie Nie has become the local blogger you feel you know. Whether she's sharing pictures of restoring the guest ranch (that's where the picture comes from... the cropping does it no justice) or relating stories from the perspective of a young mother ... you can't help but relate to her family on a very personal level.
I have a newly installed widget on my sidebar. It's there for a reason that could best be summed up by this article from the New York Times: "After Blogger’s Plane Crash, Virtual Becomes Personal".
Now my big little town is pitching in.
Some are putting on free concerts. Others are donating proceeds from stores and online auctions. And it's not just us. Many more from around the world are simply donating because they're obeying the urge to help someone they've come to know through words and pictures.
Get to know the family. Visit her blog. And, if you feel so inclined, click on the link (or install your own) to assist this couple in their long recovery.
