If You Can Dream It, You Can Do It…..

“If you can dream it, you can do it”
Walt Disney

Look around you…. at what you no doubt have in your pocket or hand…..at the latest healthcare technologies….. what you saw the last time you went to the movies…. all brought to you because someone dared to dream it.

Even the dreams of the Star Trek writers have inspired technology that we see now.
What would our world be like had Walt Disney not realized his dreams?

Are You Prepared to Go?

Don’t worry, it’s not what you think.  Late Saturday afternoon, our phones went off with what can only be described as a loud siren.  It was our Tornado app that we have.  Sure enough, we were under a tornado warning, and in fact, one was spotted west of Boca.

I’ve decided that I can take a hurricane any day because at least you know they’re on their way.
You get very little warning with a tornado.

Just because someone is from Kansas (Auntie Em!) doesn’t mean they know where to go should … (91 comments)

Our Mom’s will always have that hold over us….

While some people hate waiting in a doctor’s office or anywhere for that matter, I find it a little relaxing.  My work is an arm’s length away in my purse…. my iPhone or iPad if I want it but I can also just do something I love doing… people watch.

Yesterday was one of those days… Larry had some medical tests and was not allowed to drive so I played chauffeur (he’s ok)  So, there I was sat with my iPad and iPhone.   Plenty to keep me busy.

I’ve been doing some cogitating today….

Don’t worry, it’s not that heady.  However, lately as I’ve been trolling the halls of this community,  I’ve come upon some posts that just make me not want to read them.

Yep… I see the title and then check out the first sentence or so, and as I do, I find myself going “ugh, not this again.”  I don’t feel like being dragged down by complaints about Zillia or whatever it’s being called or some facet of the community that isn’t working.

Have you had this reaction as well?

So I have 2 … (33 comments)

Feeling Blue?  SNAP out of it!

Have you gone blue with changes in your life or around you?  Are you ready to rant and rave and lash out?

Seriously?   SNAP out of it.

Tuesday morning I listened to Amy VanDyken-Rouen( 6 time Olympic gold medalist)  on the Mike & Mike show talk about her life after her life-changing ATV accident on June 6, 2014 which left her paralyzed from the waist down.

Just listening to her positive attitude and her way of looking at what’s happened in her life made me stop and take a look at my … (73 comments)

Sh-h-h Keep it Quiet!  I May Have Found a New One.

Keep this between us, but I think I may have found a new one.
You may not be aware of this, but I love football.  It has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember.

I begin the day watching Mike & Mike on ESPN and find myself counting the days for the start of the NFL season.  I actually sat and watched the first night of the NFL draft.

However…. I must admit that after weeks of watching the 2014 FIFA … (23 comments)

July 4th - My Love of Our Nation’s Capitol.

My first visit to Washington, D.C. was on my senior trip.   Our trip
took us all the way from Houston through Biloxi, MS… DC.. Philadelphia… Boston.. New York… Niagara Falls and back south through Detroit and St Louis.

But it was Washington DC that caught my eye.  I couldn’t get enough of the Smithsonian.  I vowed that I was going to return.  It took many years, but in 2004, we moved to Leesburg, VA for my husband’s work.  It was just a “short” 40 minute trip into the city, but … (27 comments)

thoughts: Just Whom Are You Hiring? - 02/27/14 09:23 AM
Just whom are you hiring?
There was a discussion today on Mike & Mike about odd/creative interview questions.  Imagine you’re sitting on either side of the interview desk… you may be interviewing a prospective agent or you may be the one interviewing for the position.   Here’s the question:

Would you rather have the right person make the wrong decision or the wrong person make the right decision?

If you were hiring someone to work for you; perhaps you’re a seller hiring an agent, or maybe you’re picking someone to be on your team, who would it be?

There are different ways … (20 comments)

thoughts: All in all-no complaints from me. It could be worse. - 01/04/14 01:25 AM
I know that all of our neighbors to the north are experiencing bitter cold weather this weekendand we've only just entered the New Year.  For those of us lucky to be in a warmer climate, it has been breezy, cloudy and just plain "icky."   Those visiting Delray Beach for the holidays certainly had warm weather but for the most part, the sun was working part-time and only graced us with some warm rays on occasion.
All in all, I'd have to say, I have no complaints.  Wherever you are, stay warm and safe.

Winning the lottery....you sticking with that Plan?

The other day while having a pedicure (yes, I admit it, it is my one thing I cannot give up), my friend/esthetician (Maria) and I were discussing the lottery.   What would we go out and buy or do if we won?

Come on….I know you’ve played the “What if” game! Maria said her sister  would buy 5 cars, while she would spend her winnings on shoes.  I’ve heard some say they would travel or buy a larger home. Many would make sure their children’s college was paid for.

Well, what if we removed … (35 comments)

New Year’s  Traditions- Naturally it Involves Food!

I have had Black Eyed Peas on New Year’s Day for as long as I can remember.
Growing up in Texas it was a given that in addition to whatever else we were having for New Year’s Dinner there was always that bowl of black eyed peas, and no matter whether you liked them or not, you ate them for good luck.   Some think that this tradition dates back to the Civil War.

I already purchased mine  for this New Year’s Day when we’ll go to our friend's house for our traditional meal of … (35 comments)

No Big Deal, But It Was to Someone!

Thank you Debbie Reynolds for this enlightening challenge- A Really Big Deal or No Big Deal.

I will never forget the kindness of this particular agent.  About 5 years ago when we were not in the best of Real Estate markets here I had the honor of providing a Staging Consultation for a gentleman for which I was paid absolutely nothing.

A very kind and giving agent whom I knew, called and said that once a year she donated her services to someone in need.  She was trying to sell … (59 comments)

A Christmas Confession...

I have a confession… a Christmas confession to make,  however for those of you who are going to comment “Get a life” or “I never watch those things”,  just move on to the next member in the blogroll.  I don’t mean to seem rude, but I don’t want you to break my Christmas spirit.

My confession?   I love all of those hokey, B-rated holiday movies that are out this time of year.  They usually run on the Hallmark channel or Lifetime or something like that.  Now mind you, I never just sit and watch them.  (I never … (83 comments)

I Am Thankful Everyday!

Joni Staples is like ActiveRain’s spiritual cheerleader and for that I am thankful.   For our upcoming holidays and to get us in the right frame of mind, she has asked us to blog about what we are thankful for.  I think she has a point here …. why not focus on what’s positive in our lives, instead of what or who is wrong with it.

I’m a big believer in positive thinking, and I also believe that negative thoughts and people drag you down like a drowning person with a weight tied to them.

Seriously …..I Really Do Learn a Lot from Football!

I was watching Denver play the Cowboys Sunday, and quite often the cameras would show Peyton Manning on the sidelines.  He is amazing to watch out on the field as he calls audibles.  However it is just as amazing to observe his behavior off the field…… on the bench while his defense is on the field.

(So for those of you fleeting football fans, “audibles” are when a quarterback approaches the line of scrimmage and, after seeing and evaluating the defense,  decides to make a play change and “calls an … (36 comments)

9-11 What I Learned
I could not let this day pass without some remembrance of September 11, 2001.  Many speak of what they remember; other will write of lost friends and family members.  Others still will recall where they were …. who among us will ever forget where we were and what we were doing.

Several years prior to that day, I remember reading an article from one of our nation’s top leaders.   In it he warned us of our complacency.
He said that waiting out there were those enemies of our country who might be poised to enter the … (11 comments)

“You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile!” Well ARE You?

I was on the “blog home” page the other day and I looked to my right at all of the many AR members whom I follow.   Want to know what I saw?

A lot of SMILING Faces!

Well yes, there was a frog, and a door, and oh yes, a fountain and birds (I do love these bloggers, though) however for the most part the members to whom I subscribed, whom I Follow, all have nice, welcoming smiles on their faces.

So what, you say.  Well I … (58 comments)

Happiness Happens Day is August 8!   Quickly...What Makes You Happy?

Don’t think about the answer... are you happy ?  Well today is Happiness Happens Day.
I’m serious, there is such a day, as well as Happiness Month (August).

Happiness Happens Day was started by Pamela Gail Johnson who is also the founder of the Secret Society of Happy People who wanted an avenue to express her happiness and well as create one for others.  She has also written The Secret Society of Happy People’s Thirty One Types of Happiness Guide.

So, what was your answer?  Are You happy? … (31 comments)

Was There a Full Moon Today Because  I’ve Never Seen So Many Curmudgeons!

Did you ever have one of those days where everyone seemed to have a frown on their face and an attitude to match?  Maybe it was a full moon or something that was carried in the wind but everywhere I went today people seemed to be negative and downright unfriendly.
I was picking up a prescription and the cashier barely looked at me.  To make matters worse, she couldn’t find it and said I would have to come back later.  The other customer at the deli counter felt … (66 comments)

How Are You Ever Going to Get What You Don’t Go For?
One of my favorite quotes is from hockey great Wayne Gretzky.........

“You Miss 100% of the Shots You Don’t Take!”

I’ve been watching America’s Got Talent, and there are some interesting and very unusual people with a wide range of talent on it.  However one thing they all can say is that they took their shot.

Is there something you want to do ?  Learn to fly?
Go back to school?  Become #1 in your state at ActiveRain?
