sylva nc real estate: Real Estate Isn't About Luck...But, The Buckeyes Didn't Hurt! - 08/27/12 10:43 PM
Real estate isn’t about luck. It’s been so long since I’ve seen this that I’m not sure I’m seeing things right. Is that light at the end of the tunnel? What made the difference? Could it have been the Buckeyes? They probably didn’t hurt but what it really was IF indeed that IS light at the end of the tunnel, the thing that makes the difference is...

sylva nc real estate: When The Grass is Tall, Watch Out for Snakes...Horsing Around in Jackson County - 09/16/11 04:20 PM
When the grass is tall, watch out for snakes is exactly what was going through my head when we were out on Blanton Branch this morning to check on our signs.  What a lousy day to have chosen to wear flipflops, I thought.  Leslie called out from the car to see if I wanted her to adjust the sign, heck yeah, I answered!
So back to the snakes.  While I was waiting for Leslie to walk over, I'm thinking about snakes in the grass and suddenly I hear a rustling and clomping sound emanating from the grass.  The fight or flight … (13 comments)

sylva nc real estate: Images of Art on Lantern's Wick Trail - 09/03/11 04:25 PM

The images of art in the house on Lantern's Wick Trail in the Greens Creek community of Sylva, NC speak for themselves.

Enjoy some more of the artwork of Paulette Taiclet.  There will still be more posts of her graphic comic inspired paintings but for now, here are two pieces of stained glass, an impressive pencil sketch and a portion of a truly unbelieveable self-portrait produced on a quilt.

There does not appear to be a medium that Paulette Taiclet does not excel at!

sylva nc real estate: Fisher Creek a Success - Pay It Forward Open House Recipe - 08/30/11 03:27 PM
Here's my chance to Pay it Forward with my easy and delicious "Perfect Open House Lasagna" recipe.

We work hard...and smart to get great turnouts at our Open Houses.  We issue genuine invitations to our fellow agents in the area.  We honestly want to see them and visit with them during the Open House.  My business partner, Leslie Rojohn, calls it the "personal touch".  We email the invitation, we follow it up with texts and phone calls.  There is no question on the part of the attendees that we truly appreciate the effort they've made to come to our Open House.

sylva nc real estate: The Invitations Are Sent - We Will Be Serving Lunch - 08/29/11 02:05 AM

The invitations are sent, the menu is planned - we will be serving lunch, the grass is cut and the house is clean.  Hosting an Open House isn't much different from hosting a party at your own house...

Tomorrow, Tuesday August 30th from 11:30 until 1:30pm, we will be hosting a Broker's Open House at 719 Fisher Creek Road in Sylva.  In addition to getting familiar with the listing, the Brokers and the general public are welcome to join us for lunch.  On the menu is vegetarian lasagna, garlic bread, sweet tea and sherbert.

sylva nc real estate: The Most Photographed Courthouse - 08/14/11 04:29 AM
Pulling off Hwy US74 at exit 83 will take you right into the heart of downtown Sylva, NC and the home of "the most photographed courthouse" via Grindstaff Cove Road.

Just after leaving the highway on your right is the attractive entrance to the Jackson County Administration Center.  Before the county made real estate documents available online, real estate agents, paralegals and attorneys spent a lot of time here.  It's still a favorite retreat for many who want to get some research done wih the county staff available to assist whenever you need them.

We're very fortunate in Jackson County.  Whenever … (19 comments)

sylva nc real estate: I'm in Love With Living & Working in Western North Carolina - 07/28/11 01:27 AM
Maybe its because the summer weather has been so hot everywhere, but it got me thinking about why I'm in love with living and working in Western North Carolina...I know the summer will end and morph gently into fall...which will ease silently into winter...which will then burst forward into spring - so there's always certainty of a change in seasons.

One of the other things I love about the mountains of Western North Carolina is that the curving mountain roads always, always, always hold a scenic surprise whenever I round the bend.  And the views are different from hour to hour, day to … (16 comments)

sylva nc real estate: Is Print Media Still Relevant to Real Estate Marketing? - 07/27/11 02:32 AM
Since getting involved with the ActiveRain real estate community, I often wonder about the differences and similarities of real estate markets and marketing in our various regions. Is print media still a relevant way to market real estate?

Today is pickup day for the Buyer's Guide ads and that lead me to be glad that we haven't jumped on the band wagon proclaiming print is a dead medium for marketing real estate and only the internet has validity to buyers.

sylva nc real estate: WE List?...YOU Service?...Can't Touch This! - 07/23/11 01:44 AM
Okay, let me get this right...WE list this and YOU service it??? Say...what? and add a double dose of ...huh? Can't touch this!

This happened a few days ago and we still haven't gotten the hairs to lay down on the backs of our necks.  We received an email from a good real estate buddy four counties and 65-70 miles away.  "I've referred you to someone in our office for a co-list".  This was the sum total of the email.  I wrote back and thanked him for the volume of information and expressed our wishes that it be either a useless vacant lot, … (92 comments)

sylva nc real estate: I've Seen Fire and I've Seen Rain - 06/19/11 12:57 PM

I've Seen Fire and I've Seen Rain in the last day and a half.  We had a couple of maple trees fall down during one of the ridiculously strong windstorms from a couple of weeks ago.  Every time the burning got going, we'd get a cloudburst!  Embers and coals stayed hot though and I kept on keeping on and finally got all the wood burnt. Since I've spent a lot of time burning wood, I've decided that burning wood is a lot like working real estate.

Let's just take buyers. First there is the monumental task of prequalifying for … (13 comments)

sylva nc real estate: Feeling Mellow Tonight - 05/30/11 03:30 PM
Yes, I'm feeling mellow tonight.  It's the end of a three day weekend and we actually took today off from working.  Working real estate anyway, worked plenty at the house.
Tomorrow is the last day of the 31 Days of May Challenge. Boy, has that been a rewarding experience!?  I've met so many wonderful people on AR throughout this.  People who made a commitment and stuck with it.  Smart people, funny people and creative people.
Fired up the grill for the first time this year.
Got the house clean and burned up a ton of downed wood.
So, this isn't a … (13 comments)

sylva nc real estate: Throw Out the Calendar ~ Day Twenty Eight of the 31 Days of May Challenge - 05/28/11 05:26 PM
Some days you might as well throw out the calendar.

I went to bed last night thinking I had the day all lined up today.  No appointments, no commitments, just the whole day wide open to get stuff done.  Important stuff, house stuff, yard stuff, laundry stuff...not real estate stuff.

The weather was perfect.   Cool, breezy - high 50s and low humidity. No gnats or other skin munching creatures.  I was going to take the little chain saw and finally cut up all the branches from the fallen maples and haul them up to the fire … (13 comments)

sylva nc real estate: Friday Ends With a Dance ~ Day Twenty Seven of the 31 Days of May Challenge - 05/27/11 04:07 PM
Friday ends with a dance.

There has really been no down time this week...well, except for taking pictures of the little colt in Savannah Township. That was relaxing.

We've shown houses, met new clients, had clients disappear into the wind (do you suppose there is an alternative realty reality where they all are?), negotiated a new contract, lunched with a lender, had a bonfire,  kept up with the 31 Day Challenge, blogged, blogged, blogged...

I have a score of topics to post about, but I think let's mellow out and celebrate Friday by ending this week with one … (11 comments)

sylva nc real estate: The Consequence of Horsing Around in Jackson County, NC~Day Twenty Six of the 31 Days of May Challenge - 05/26/11 05:25 PM
Did you catch the post a week or so ago called "Horsing Around Jackson County"?  On the way to showing our listing on Timbuktu Road, I encountered this little consequence of horsing around!

The baby was very shy and really resembles the mama.  What a treat this was.  I'm going out again tomorrow to get more shots.

Spotless and ready to move into!

Consider this attractive cabin as a perfect getaway spot or year-round home.

Located at 847 Timbuktu Road in the Savannah Township, the cabin has a spacious main living area and … (3 comments)

sylva nc real estate: Advice From a Tree in Sylva, North Carolina ~ Day Twenty Five of the 31 Days of May Challenge - 05/25/11 06:52 AM
Yes, I've had the opportunity to take Advice from A Tree.

We visited with a friend early yesterday evening at the Sylva Vista subdivision in Jackson County and left an hour later feeling like we had been on the most relaxing vacation.  We do see these views often in our travels, but rarely take the time to relax and simply just "be".

We soaked in the views and relished the gentle conversation with our good friend.  When you live in an area like ours, here in Sylva, North Carolina it is easy to be distracted from the realization … (13 comments)
