If Opportunity Doesn’t Knock…

The other day, as I was mindlessly twisting on an ab machine and saw this scroll across one of the screens…

If opportunity doesn’t knock...build a door!

If opportunity doesn't knock

What a simple concept.  But how many of us actually do that?

I thought about were those awful housing years beginning in 2007-2008. Homeowners who found themselves underwater and couldn’t sell if they had to.  Some owners forced to move because they could no longer afford their home. Houses that couldn’t be sold because there were buyers couldn’t get loans. And I thought of so many of the members here.

Yes, YOU!

Opportunity wasn’t knocking.  The doors were awfully quiet.

And what I saw were many of you who built your own door here at ActiveRain.

You recognized the need for a different type of marketing via your blog.

You recognized the need for more information on new marketing techniques, and the need to share that as well.

You decided that rather than sit back and say “It’s the market.” you would create a presence so that you were an integral part of the market.

In whatever you’re doing, whatever your goals, if those doors don’t seem to be there...consider building one of your own.

Love the quote, can understand it coming from Milton Berle. A powerful statement, that is for sure.

Very true.  Those of us that were here during that down turn did build our own door and made new opportunities.

Interesting post, Kathy. I joined AR specifically to do something new and different, even if I didn't know exactly what that was - I soon found out.

A very interesting and thought provoking quote. Of course with the reputation that Berle one would have to wonder from whom did he steal it.

Funny, this ties in with a conversation my son and I had today - about all the people who sit back and do nothing vs. the ones who proudly get up and make things happen.

This country was founded by people who built doors and were proud to do so. They took care of themselves and accomplished things - and never mind the hardships they faced.

I'm really glad to be here at Active Rain - part of a community of door builders.

Think you just have to be always prospecting as you never know where that opportunity will present itself. Keep Knocking!

Kathy, Uncle Milton was funny but not dumb. So many people do not see an opportunity and they get discouraged and just stop. But that is the time to rise and shine, build the door, make it happen.

Thanks for the great encouragement.

Kathy, what a great Milton Berle quote!  I remember hearing my parents talking about him - he allegedly was a terrible joke thief!  But this saying is wonderful whether he stole it or not!
