Delray Beach Sailboat Storage

Did you know that you can store your sailboat on the beach in Delray? delray beach Since 1980, boaters have been able to store their sailboats at the north end of the beach.  It is the city’s way of helping to prevent the sailboats from running into swimmers.

What you need to know…

-There is an annual permit for $265 renewable on October 1.

-You can obtain a permit at the Ocean Rescue Headquarters located at 340 S. Ocean Blvd. in Delray from 8 - 5 pm Monday through Friday- 561-243-7252

All boats must display their beach stickers as well as be inspected and be maintained and in usable condition.

They must also be secured and must be removed from the beach should we go under a hurricane warning.

There are spots for 60 boats and many of the owners come together to share boating information, maintenance tips and just to get together to hang out.

I don't think I have ever been on a sailboat.  I enjoy being on boats, but I don't think I would ever want to own one.  They seem to be a lot to maintain, haha.

Kathy Streib - what a great idea.  My husband had an 18 ft Hobie with twin sails and it took more time to set up than sail it. We enjoyed sailing in San Diego and it was a half day ordeal before you could start enjoying the sailing! This would have been a fantastic option.

You'd be surprised how many people around here stop short of getting a permit and get their boats impounded. The permit is less than a dollars day. Go figure Kathy Streib

Hi Kathy - Good info for your local readers. That's a pretty good deal - having to haul a sailboat around every time you wanted to go out would be a real pain.

It is Wayne Martin Try storing your other types of boats...gets expensive.

That it is Sally K. & David L. Hanson

Especially if they want to sail out in the ocean. Gita Bantwal

Mimi Foster honestly I have no idea.  During Sandy, some broke away and they did suffer some damage.

Scott Godzyk All they have to do is drop off their gear, go park the car and they're right there.

Brian England boats are better when they're used, and yes, they do take some maintenance.

Bill Roberts Hey, they have to save some space for the rest of us!!!   LOL

Thank you Michael Jacobs It's very affordable when you consider that it costs $1.50 an hour to park your car on the beach.

I agree Sheri Sperry - MCNE That's why we decided to live on the water when we first moved to Florida.  Our boat was in our back yard basically.

Paul S. Henderson, REALTOR®, Broker, Tacoma Washington I agree.  You're supposed to remove your boats when a hurricane is threatening but during Sandy since it wasn't a warning here, many people left their boats on the beach.  We caught one as it was about to be washed out to sea.

I love it when we drive by on a windy day and see the boats out. Ron and Alexandra Seigel
