Elbow grease has always been used to clean up dirt and grime in your house but there is a better way to clean and that is using a steam cleaner. Most people think their vacuum cleaner is all that they need to clean their house and that they do not need a steam cleaner too. Once you see the effectiveness of a steam cleaner then you will wonder how you ever cleaned your house without it. Guide of points to consider before purchasing a steam cleaner:

How Steam Cleaners Work

Steam cleaners works purely on water without any need for solution or cleaning fluids. Water is poured into a tank on the machine where it is them passed through heating elements. These elements heat the water to a temperature between 230 260c and the water evaporates to produce steam. With the build up of steam also comes an increase is pressure inside the machine. When the temperature and pressure reaches a certain point, steam is then ready to be released through the cleaning attachment head where the high pressure steam is used to clean a selected area. Most steam cleaners take only seconds to heat up and ready to start using.

Hygienic Cleaning

The high-pressure steam has been scientifically proven to kill bacteria, viruses, and dust mites. It will also neutralize other allergens. A steam cleaning machines does not use heavy duty chemicals in its operation. It uses the power of steam to clean so you don’t have to worry about the potentially damaging effects you could have with chemicals. The steam will make your kitchen and bathroom areas more sanitary – amazing sanitizing and disinfecting ability!

Tank capacity

The size of the tank determines the amount of water that it will hold and the amount of time you can clean before needing to refill. If you are doing short, quick cleaning of a single area then you might consider a handheld steam cleaner. If you need to clean an entire home, then you should purchase an upright model. For jobs in between there are portable machines that can be easily moved around the house.

Size / Mobility

Handheld steam cleaners can be easily stored when not in use. They are lightweight allowing you to clean without fear that your hand will cramp from holding the device for an extended period of time. The largest machines are very heavy and are rolled around the house. If you need to move a larger machine up or down stairs it can be a challenge to pick up the machine.

Steam cleaners will work on a wide range of surfaces from tile floors to upholstery. The tool that you use for cleaning will be designed for a specific surface type. Handheld steam cleaners may come with a limited number of attachments like 7 or less. The larger style machines may have up to 2 dozen attachments. You need to know exactly what type of surfaces you might be cleaning in your house and use this as a guide when selecting a machine that has the necessary attachments to clean these surfaces.

The handheld steam cleaners are going to be cheapest. They have limited number of attachments, smaller water reservoirs and less cleaning time between refills. The larger machines are pricier but you get a larger water reservoir and more attachments. Our favourite brands are karcher & Vax S6.

Using a Steam Cleaner on Home Carpets

Steam cleaners to suit your home are not a new invention, in fact they have been around for about 30 years, but with the new advances in technology they have become a much more efficient steam cleaning machine. In certain areas of the home carpets and rugs get a whole lot of traffic walking across them constantly. You have your own feet coming across them, then you have your family, any guests, any pets and that’s just inside the house. You may not realize that you track in germs and dirt from the outside world every time you come inside from the outdoors.

A floor steam cleaner will get in deep to the fibers of the carpet rather than just on the surface like vacuums and brooms. This deep fiber wash isS6 home master what sets steam cleaners apart from the traditional ways of cleaning carpets. Do you remember when your mother would take an area rug outside and hang it over a clothes line, then just beat on it for hours? Well, that works to a certain extent but it still leaves all that dirt and grime in the fibers of the rug itself.

For a smaller rug you don’t need to use a huge steam cleaner you may find available for rent at your local grocery store, because there are handheld steam cleaners available for those smaller jobs. Most people also find it a lot easier to clean the steps of their homes with a handheld steam cleaner versus a much larger one. It really all depends on what your needs are in terms of cleaning. If you have a lot of hardwood floors and just a few area rugs than you won’t need a huge model.

If you have a mostly carpeted house then you would want to invest in a machine that is suitable for cleaning carpets so you can attack your entire house in a matter of a couple hours. A handheld machine just wouldn’t do the same for you because it would take too long trying to clean a large area. But, even if you do have a lot of hardwood flooring in your home you can still get a steam mop which is great for that total cleansing of hardwood flooring.

If you need that deep cleaning of your rugs and carpet inside your house then you would be remiss to pass up a steam cleaner. When vacuums and brooms just aren’t giving that “shine” back to your flooring you need a new alternative. Whether you’re buying or renting your steam cleaning machine it doesn’t matter, as long as you get into those fibers and break down stains and deep dirt. You may look at your carpet as if it’s the first time you’ve seen them, simply because over time all that dirt has changed the overall color. Be sure you grab the proper cleaner for your needs. Don’t go too small if you have a lot of area to clean and don’t go too big if you have just a few small areas to clean.
