Southern gospel singer, Janet Paschal (Gaither Homecomings) is one of my favorite friends, although we've never met in person. We've corresponded about four times a year for the past fifteen years. I think she's a fine singer. But what really endears me to her is her ability to see the simplicities of life and to write about them. I've written professionally since I was 16, (Bill Cherry's Memories) That's more than 50 years. If you'll recall, Christian churches and Jewish synagogues, have pushed as one of the primary factors of staying right with God, the biblical requirement called tithing. In the main, tithing is founded in the concept that everything we have was the result of a gift from God; therefore, we should give back at lt least 10% of it to the furthering of His work on earth. I'd like to discuss a delicate subject with you today. It's delicate because I'm going to try to build a case for challenging one of the few perpetual guilt trips we are placed on from almost the moment we speak our first word until we inhale our dying breath. Here it is: Giving donations to various charities. Making large capital contributions to churches, hospitals, libraries, colleges and on and on.
